Chapter Text
It was just a normal morning. Or so I thought.
“Y/n!” Mom yelled. “Get up!”
“Huh?” I sat up. “It’s not a school day…” I’ve just turned eighteen, but mom didn’t get me anything… she spent it all on her drinking.
“Get dressed!” Mom opened the door. She was already tipsy, even in the morning. “Your new owners are here.”
“Nani?!” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! “Owners?” I rubbed my tired, sapphire orbs.
“Yeah, I’m selling you.” She said, and my plump pink lips parted in shock.
“S-selling me? Doushite???”
“You’re too expensive to keep around with all your books, so I’m selling you for drugs and alcohol money, sweetie.” Mom took a sip from her bottle. “They’ll be here soon, so get ready!”
The doorbell rang. “That’s them. Go answer it.” She said. I quickly brushed my messy brown hair, sweeping my bangs to the side, the honey blonde ends sparkling in the light. I tied it up in a messy bun, then picked up my glasses. I hate their black frame that makes me look like such a nerd! I picked up my oversized pink hoodie (it’s only a size small, actually) and pulled it over my head. I put on some ripped stockings, a black pleated skirt and my dirty converse sneakers (I’m not like those other girls who wear heels, I like comfy shoes!) and then I went downstairs and opened the door.
There on my doorstep were these strange looking guys, (well, one of them looked like a girl, I couldn’t be sure) all with sunglasses on… I had the feeling I had seen them before…
“Ohayo gozaimasu, ohime-sama~” The man in the middle, in a light brown sweater and jeans smiled at me, his pearly white teeth glistening. “Go get your stuff.”
“W-who are you guys…” I stammered.
“We’re your new bosses. Surely you’ve heard of us?” He raked through his warm brown hair.
“N-no…” I nervously fiddled with the strings of my hoodie.
“What?” He scoffed, taking off his sunglasses. “You haven’t heard our songs before?”
I shook my head. They were in weird dark clothes, and had heels on! “Oh… are you a band?” I rolled my eyes. “I don’t like popular music. I prefer reading over silly boybands.” I folded my arms.
“Oh, you’re smart? That’s good. Now, hurry up and pack your bags, sweetheart.”
God, what a jerk! I went back into my room, with tears in my eyes. I only had a tiny suitcase, from when I was a kid… my dad bought it for me…
Blinking away tears I packed what I could. My clothes are only small, so I got most of those in, as well as some books. My mom didn’t even say goodbye to me…
I opened the door again, and the one who spoke to me earlier was near the back of the van. I saw that it said ‘Malice Mizer’ on the side… that did ring a bell. I walked to him cautiously. “Here.” He put the suitcase in the back of the van with their equipment, and then I took my seat inside. There were really only 3 seats, but because of my small frame I fit at the end next to him.
“Uh… Hi…” I muttered.
“…So you really haven’t heard of our band?” The man with the short brown hair asked.
“Well… I might have… but it’s not really my thing! I-I don’t like music…” I felt so awkward.
“I’m the singer, Gackt Camui.” He flashed another smile at me… I could tell he was a flirty type. “This is Kami.” He gestured to the long haired man beside him. “He plays drums.”
“Hey.” Kami smiled at me.
“That’s Közi.” He pointed to the guy at the end, who was smoking a cigarette.
“You smoke?” Közi asked.
“No…”
“That’s a shame.” He said.
“He plays guitar,” Gackt explained. “So does Mana, in front.” He pointed to the passenger seat, where the feminine looking man stayed silent. “He doesn’t like to talk much…”
I guessed he was shy like me… I wasn’t really popular in school. I didn’t wear makeup or anything, because I prefer natural beauty and books over getting attention from boys. I’m kinda a tomboy…
“And Yu~ki’s our bassist.”
The man driving gave me a little wave.
“So what’s your name?” Gackt asked.
“I-It’s Y/N…” I mumbled. “I-I don’t really like my name…”
“Eh?? But why?” Gackt raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow. “I think it’s kawaii!”
“K-kawaii? No… not really.” I turned my head to look out the window. I wondered what my life would be like now… touring with this weird rock band… It seemed like Gackt was hitting on me… but was that really true? I doubted it. He had probably met so many pretty girls, but I’m just normal.
What did they want me for anyway?
I kept thinking about it on the journey, until eventually, we were at a studio.
“C’mon.” Gackt said, unbuckling his seatbelt. “You’ll get to watch us practice today.”
“O-okay.” I got out of the van. They took some stuff from the back of the van. I grabbed one of my books from my suitcase to keep me entertained, just in case. I still had no idea what they needed me to do! They didn’t ask me to help bring anything, and I just followed along, shuffling my feet along the ground. My long, pin-straight, flowing hair swayed in the wind as we entered the building.
I had never been in a place like this. I spend most of my time at bookstores, browsing the latest works of literature… but I can’t really afford any, because my mom spends her money on drugs and alcohol.
“Alright, what are we working on?” Közi asked, setting up his guitar. I liked the swirls on it, it seemed to suit him somehow. He still had a cigarette in his mouth, this must have been his third since we met!
“We haven’t done ‘Au Revoir’ in a while.” Kami replied.
French? Just what kind of musicians were they? They seemed a little pretentious to me, like they were trying to stand out from other guys! I can’t stand people like that! I’m always my unique, yet unloved self…
“Sure.” Kozi shrugged.
Gackt was making some weird noises, like a dying bird, for his vocal warm ups. Mana, who still hadn’t spoken a word to me, gave me a chair to sit on and watch. I felt weird, being the only audience member.
As they got set up, I sat down and opened up my book.
“Hey!” Gackt yelled. “You’re meant to be paying attention to us!” He walked up to me and snatched the book from my hand… that kisama!!
“Eh??” He looked at the book in confusion. “Is this a yaoi manga?!”
My cheeks burned red, I wanted to run out the room! I must have picked up the wrong book like a baka! Now, don’t get me wrong, I do love yaoi.. these mean girls at my school are always making fun of me for it, but I’m a fujoshi with pride, okay!?
Gackt flicked through it, lifting up his sunglasses to have a closer look. He turned around and held it up to the guys. “It’s so ecchi..Man, she’s a real pervert!”
I felt myself get hot with shame, my shoulders tight as I stared at the ground, scratching the back of my head.
“She’ll fit right in!” Közi exclaimed, and they all laughed.
“H-hey! Give that back!” I got suddenly angry, and jumped up, trying to grab my yaoi from Gackt’s hands, but I’m just so small, I couldn’t reach it! He held it up, teasingly.
“You can have it back after you watch us and tell us what you think, little miss hentai~!” He gave me a cheeky smile, and put the manga on the floor near to where he was going to stand to sing.
When they began to play… it was like something strange was happening to me. I hadn’t cared about music… not for a long time. I didn’t think they were this good! There was some backing track, but they really were playing their instruments! That cocky Gackt’s voice was well-controlled and passionate. They played in perfect harmony! That chorus… it was so good… my ocean blue orbs widened in awe!
Then, when they finished, I stood up and applauded! “Woah! T-that was sugoi!” I complimented them, my hands clasped together.
“Heh…” Gackt fixed his hair, almost breathless. There was something almost attractive about him… Gosh, what’s wrong with me?!
“No…”
A voice I hadn’t heard yet… could it be?! The beautiful, doll-like guitarist opened his mouth!
“Nani!?” Gackt tilted his head, looking at Mana like a confused puppy. “You didn’t like it Mana-chan?”
“It’s still not right…” His voice was quiet, but powerful. They all listened to him.
“But I really like it!” I blurted out, and felt Mana’s cold gaze on me, even through his dark sunglasses.
“Only because it was your first time hearing it. You wouldn’t understand.” He said, and I frowned and sat down. Maybe Mana was right… what did I know?
“Mana!” Gackt addressed his bandmate. “Don’t be like that to her!”
I gulped.
“You’re the one who picked her, not me. She’s not giving honest opinions… we should just give her back to her mother—”
“No!” I pleaded. What was wrong with me? I only just got sold to them..and yet… “I don’t want to go!” Tears prickled in the corners of my azure orbs, making my already naturally long lashes look wet.
“Y/n, daijobu desu ka?” Gackt asked.
“Y-yes… gomenne…” I don’t know what came over me! “I…I want to help you guys… but why? Why did you choose me…” I sniffled. “I-I’m not special or anything… I’m just a girl… and I’m a little weird…”
“So are we.” Gackt smiled.
“Huh? We’re not girls.” Közi raised an eyebrow.
“No, I meant we’re a little weird, Közi.”
“Oh.” Közi lit another cigarette.
Maybe they understood me more than I thought…
“We need a girl like you who fits our audience demographic to better understand how to perform.” Gackt explained. “‘Little weird’ is just right, Y/N-chan…”
“Naruhodo…” I nodded, finally getting it.
“Look, maybe we just need a little break, and then we can try again?” Kami suggested.
“We need to talk to our manager anyway. Y/N, you stay here and mind our stuff.” Gackt instructed me.
“Oh… Okay.” I was a little hurt that they didn’t want me to come with them, but I stayed anyway. I walked over to the mic stand to pick up my yaoi manga. I tapped the microphone out of curiosity. It was still on, but not turned up to super high.
I liked that ‘Au Revoir’ song that they performed earlier, and so I started to sing it…The words just seemed to flow from my mouth! Despite only just hearing it, I seemed to know it so well, and was able to sing it right!
“…Anata o dakishime nemuritai
Yasashii kioku ni
Kawatta ima de sae mo
Kono ude de dakishime nemuritai
Deatta koro no
Futari no you ni~”
“Y/N?!” Gackt and the band returned.
“Oh!” I felt myself blushing again… “G-gomenne…” I adjusted the mic back to its right height for Gackt. “I-I just wanted to try—”
“You’re amazing!” Gackt complimented me. “You really have only just heard the song when I sang it just then, right?!”
“Uh… yeah…” I scratched my head.
“You’re a very good singer, Y/N-chan!” Yu~ki smiled.
“N-no!” I shook my head. “I-I’m really not… I get so nervous…” Sure, I can sing, but what does it matter? I’m just too shy… besides, being noticed isn’t really my thing…
I was getting embarrassed again, so I asked to go to the bathroom. Gackt told me where it was, but I almost forgot, I was so overwhelmed! I went in there and ran my wrists under cold water, to cool myself down.
‘Pull yourself together, baka!’ I looked at myself in the mirror. ‘They were probably only saying it so you didn’t feel bad…’
I stayed in there for a few minutes, but realised maybe they were waiting for me, but when I left, I got a little bit lost!
I took a wrong turn, but then I heard Gackt’s voice… he was speaking to Mana… and they were stood… so closely? Were they talking about me? It seemed like there was some tension between them… but now it seemed like there was a different type of tension entirely! My heart went doki-doki… Gackt tucked a loose strand of hair behind Mana’s ear, then stroked his cheek.
‘Oh my God… are they… yaoi?’ I wondered. I felt like I needed to cool myself off again, as my brain wondered who was the seme!! I almost squealed, but then they looked towards me, and then I dashed behind the corner! Staying there, I tried to listen in…
“I’m hungry…” Gackt said.
“No… you can’t… not yet…” Mana said firmly. It sounded like he pushed Gackt away.
“But why not?” Gackt whined.
“She can’t know yet.”
Know what? That he was hungry? I was so confused… I peeped my head around the corner again.
“Careful, Mana-chan… I could always feed on you~” I saw Gackt smile… his fangs… they didn’t look like that before… did they? “Just a little blood… please? Singing takes it out of me!”
I watched as Mana spoke, “No! I have to play the guitar!” Were those fangs too?! “We can’t use her, not until we know her blood is good!”
Blood?! I felt mine turning cold… Did this mean—
“Okay, Mana. But remember…” He lifted Mana’s chin up with his finger. Their eyes glowed red as they stared at each other. “You promised that all five of us would be fed.”
All five?! They couldn’t really be…
“Vampires like you are so troublesome… you have no restraint.” Mana scoffed.
“Oh, you don’t know what I’d do if I had no restraint~” Gackt chuckled.
What was I going to do?! I probably wasn’t the first virgin girl they had bought to drink the blood of. I had to think of something… but what??
