Work Text:
It was a fine day in Hell, and Alastor was making his rounds. He hummed a tune, tapping his microphone cane against the sidewalk. No matter how jaunty he appeared to be, sinners were still terrified of his presence, just how he liked it. How they screamed, how they shivered, how they'd do anything to stay on his good side, it was all quite entertaining to him. Although, it came at the price of long-term entertainment, something Alastor did prefer over the short-term screams of the average sinner.
Alastor continued his walk, passing by many buildings, storefronts, and establishments. A bar here, a drugstore there, a club just over yonder, and all the same things repeated over and over. If he by any chance found a flower shop, he could stop by Rosie's.
As he was passing by a bar, he could music and singing. He paused for a moment, getting a better listen to the voice.
"We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day~"
Alastor's ears perked up, the song was familiar; 'We'll Meet Again' by Vera Lynn. It was released shortly after he had died, but it had made its way down to Hell as all things always eventually did. But the singer is what intrigued him, the voice was like no other he had heard. It was beautiful; soft and smooth, the words rolled off their tongue so naturally. Whoever this person was, Alastor would like to meet them and give them praise for such a lovely voice.
He made his way into the bar, blaring lights and drunken patrons were all that he saw at first. But his eyes landed on the singer soon after.
"And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as I saw you go
You were singing this song."
They were quite peculiar, for they had one of those noisy picture boxes as a head- a television, as they call it. A strange form to take in Hell, that's for sure. A unique form for a unique voice, Alastor supposed.
"We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day."
The singer finished off with a bow, gaining a round of applause from their audience. They had a bright smile, one that illuminated the room even more than the lights did. Wide eyes, too. Folly red sclera with cyan pupils and mismatched eyelashes(?).
"Thank you, everyone! This song is a favourite of mine, got me through some hard times during my time on Earth."
This sinner must still be rather new to Hell, too happy and full of life to have been here very long. Anyways, Alastor should go up to them and give them the praise he said he'd give. Perhaps he could even get a special performance from them, getting compliments from The Radio Demon was incredibly unlikely and most would want to drink that up as much as possible.
"I'm sure it got some of you through hard times as well!"
Oh, that voice. So lovely, so enthralling. Alastor wanted to listen to it sing and perform even more.
He began walking up to the stage, other sinners who noticed him began to shake and curl in on themselves. Hopefully that wouldn't be the same with the singer, he'd hate to have to scare away such a lovely voice.
"I'll begin my next song in just a moment, need to rest these vocals of mine. Wouldn't want to strain them so soon into the night."
The singer walked off the stage, taking a sip from a water bottle they brought. The perfect time to give them praise. Alastor walked on over to them, scaring off any other sinners who tried to approach.
Alastor tapped the singer on the shoulder. "Hello, there."
"Heelloo?" They spun around, but immediately stiffened when they realised it was The Radio Demon they were facing. "I-I..."
"No need to be scared," Alastor assured, "I just wanted to compliment you on your singing abilities." he took a step forward and loosened his grip on his cane.
Their eyes widened, giving a nervous little smile while they not-so-subtly slowly backed away. "O-Oh, I- T-Thanks...?"
Alastor smiled and cleared his throat. "You're welcome. If I may ask, what's your name?"
"M-My name?" They asked. "It-It's Vin- Vox." Alastor hummed, they must have trouble not giving out their real name.
"Vox." Alastor repeats, letting the name roll of his tongue. "I quite like that name, Vox."
Vox blushed slightly and anxiously rubbed his arm. "Th-Thanks..."
"You're quite adept at singing," Alastor's smile softened. "your voice is very pleasant. Almost intoxicating." The TV sinners blush grew more intense at the bombardment of compliments.
"T-Thank you."
Alastor should keep this unique sinner around, seeing him melt under praise was very entertaining. "Do you do private performances?"
"... As of now." Vox squeaked. "No..."
"You should consider it, I'm sure it'd be in very high demand."
Vox's eyes darted around. "Ahaha... P-Private performances, in Hell? I dunno, might lead to some trouble- considering, y'know..." He pulled on his collar anxiously, hoping his implication came across.
"Well," Alastor started, "I suppose I can understand being worried about that." he sighed softly. He really wanted a private performance.
"V-Very nice meeting you, Mr. Radio Demon, sir. But, I've uh, got to go." Vox slowly backed away, gathering his things.
Alastor furrowed his eyebrows. "I thought you still had more-"
"'Till we meet again!" Vox ran off before Alastor could finish, leaving the bar with no singer.
Until we meet again, Vox. Alastor thought.
