Chapter Text
Avid stared at the creature in front of him. He—He died, and now he was going to be brought back? And—and this is what had attacked him when he was a kid. This was what turned Elle. And this place around him! A literal hell, an in-between. A place in between life and death? He was in a sort of Limbo between worlds.
“Wait!” Avid flinched, turning towards the voice. There was someone else here? “Wait—let me go too.”
The demon chuckled. “Funny thing we have here. I’ll tell you what, I’ll let you going this vampire’s place for three day. You can try to find someone to get you out of Limbo during that time but no matter what, the vampire will take your place on the third night. It’ll give him sometime to recover, too. What do you both say?”
“Yes!” The shadow said, sounding awfully familiar.
Avid thought about it, this person seemed desperate. Who knew how long they’d been trapped here. Plus, well, Avid was already lucky enough to come back to life, he might as well give this person a chance too. He—he knew what it was like to be dealt a bad hand in life.
“Uh, yeah, but—can you do me a favor?” He asked the shadow. “Tell everyone I’m still alive, I—I don’t want them to worry.”
The shadow looked at Avid and—although his expression weren’t visible, Avid knew—a warm, reminiscing look spread across his face. “Yeah, I will.”
“If that’s settled, I’ll send you to Oakhurst, Avid, and you will stay here.” The demon raised his hands and before Avid could ask ‘wait, what?’ The shadowed stranger was gone.
When Avid killed the Lord of Darkness, when he was sent to Limbo, he kind of expected to stay there forever. Olm told him he would, he said there was no way out. Then, he heard voices one day. A boy who looked eerily like himself, and a demon. He had to intervene, had to at least try to get home.
And…it worked? The kid let him, just as long as he informed his family he was alive. Easy enough, god knows he wished New Salem knew he was alive. That they might’ve gotten some reprieve even when he left.
So, the demon sent him away to Oakhurst. Avid had never heard at that place but—well, he hadn’t been in that many places. Plus, Olm had mentioned an island in a land of void before and that was probably weirder than a place called Oakhurst.
Actually, did the demon mention vampires? Wait—he said the boy was a vampire. But he wasn’t mindless and he didn’t try to kill Avid either. Maybe there are different types? Avid wasn’t sure but—to be fair—he didn’t look like any of the vampire in New Salem.
It didn’t really matter, though. Any minute now Avid was going to show up in Oakhurst and he would tell the vampire’s family he was alive and find someone to get him out of Limbo when he was sent back. How would he do that? Uh, he wasn’t sure. Olm said there was no way out of Limbo but—the vampire was just going to leave and if a part of him could leave, why not the whole?
Avid shook his head, whatever. He would figure it out when he got to the Overworld. There he would—would figure it out. Maybe the vampire’s family would help him out.
There was a flash of light and Avid awoke in a castle.
