Megumi was pretty sure Tsumiki knew. They didn’t ever talk anything that went beyond a surface-level kind of emotion. And yet, Tsumiki had done her best to keep them both from starving before Gojo swooped in. Tsumiki had been the one to see Megumi grow into a weird, desolate ball of a human. She had been the one to try and keep him engaged in the real world, and even with a new apartment and food in their bellies—and a looming future, jujutsu sorcery for a Megumi and a normal life for Tsumiki, respectively—she was the one trying to bridge the gap that Megumi’s unprecedented sadness and their relationship.

“It’s nothing,” said the boy, and he let the dogs fade. Kuro looked at him with those dark yellow eyes, glistening, before fading into the shadows created by Megumi’s own body.
