Summary
In a world where Veldreki are legally classified as an exotic companion species- creatures bred, trained and licensed for human households- Dick Grayson has spent his life being treated as the most exceptional pet Gotham has ever adopted. He walks the delicate line between animal and man. He speaks, works, even fights crime, and yet he still requires veterinary inspections and behavioural control reports.
When his new government mandated Handler calls him for a routine evaluation, Dick expects another sterile appointment and a list of restrictive behaviours. Instead, he’s confronted with the truth: his body is collapsing under years of conditioning against his natural instincts.
Diagnosed with a degenerative condition that could prove lethal if gone untreated, Dick must balance between his newly prescribed therapy- learning to reconnect with his baser instincts- and hiding his condition from the bats in order to maintain the illusion that he is well behaved and healthy.
