Work Text:

Huh.
The tree looked dead.
He wondered why, after all just three days ago it was lush green. Infact, he had even spotted a few squirrels and birds. It looked beautiful. Too beautiful, afterall nothing beautiful could ever survive for long in this world.
He supposed that was why he was still alive. Plain looking, spotted, bloated, that's what he looked like. Who in their right mind would ever consider a person looking like that beautiful?
Pretty people can can suffer all their life and still be beautiful. People with a face like his could suffer all their life and still be nothing.
Who would ever willingly see something like him?

Some people are just luckier than others.

Even when people talk to him in their sweet voice, he is sure that they want to leave, get away before the infection spreads.

He couldn't bear to look at that tree anymore.
He turned around swiftly, and walked off, determined to get anywhere away from here.

And then he saw her.
HER.
The most beautiful person he has ever seen, she was leaning over the trunk of the withered tree as if offering it a big, warm hug.
Was she a nymph? Was she a pixie?
Was she a goddess?
Because surely she couldn't be real.
Because surely she was too close to me to be out of reach.

The tree started to come back to life, as if her touch had healed it of all his misery.
She was a fairy then.
How beautiful....

I don't want her to die.

****************************************************

Huh.
The tree looks dead.
Why? Why, did this happen? It looked so strong.
But how could she ever realise why? She wasn't that smart.
Her brain was slower than of others, always so hard to grasp. Talking to her was exhausting, she was sure if it, for who would willingly talk to someone who never realised the subject of that topic.
Though, she didn't like talking too, everyone must surely be laughing at her.
She tries. she fails.
And she doesn't have enough brains to try again.

Some people are just luckier than others.

That tree must have been old, if so, it must have been wiser than her.
Her heart sank at the cruelty of her own brain. A simple tree was assumed smarter, but she couldn't argue that it wasn't true.
She wishes she could think, she would do anything to be normal.

But the tree... The symbol of what she considered intelligence was now dead. What was the point of being old and wise? Everyone has the same end.
But for now, it was dead and she was alive.

She leaned over the tree and hugged it.

And that's when she saw him.
HIM.
Looking at her with sharp eyes.
What was his expression implying? Her brain was too slow to process.
Was he looking at her? What was he thinking?
Did he think that she has lost her mind? Or was he laughing at her?
He looked so... Put together.
Unlike her.
He must have surely figured everything out about himself, his brain naturally more intelligent than hers.
Was he a faun? A angel? A fox?
His eyes seemed fixed on the tree, my hands were wrapped around.
Why was he watching that tree so intently?
Oh.
The tree started to come back to life, as if his gaze had started to heal it, give it strength.

A dryad then.
How wise...

I hope he doesn't die too.

Notes:

It's not exactly romance, they are just depressed af. Idolization is a problem, but sometimes it just can't be helped, hence, it is important to acknowledge everyone's problems.
