Welcome To EVO

Summary:

Grian was absolutely terrified as he followed the eldritch being through towering halls, still processing everything that he has been through.
Apparently, he's something called a Watcher, was going to be sent to server with other people like him, and on top of all of that nobody was talking about how he just disintegrated someone earlier.
He was so screwed.

Chapter Text

There was no hiding the satisfaction under Xerver’s mask as they watched their young Watchling stare in awe at the cavernous dwellings of the Watchers. “I do apologize that we did not meet under more favorable circumstances, young one.”

“It’s ok, I-I don’t think anyone was prepared for that to happen.”

Xerver was quiet as they walked with the child through the looming halls. “I know, yet still I had wished you would be older before you came to us.”

The little boy, Grian, was a bit quiet as he stayed close to the elder Watcher. “What is this place?”

“The Halls of Those Who Observe. This is the home of Watchers, Listeners, Gods, and any other higher being. Our sanctuary within the Void.”

“Whoa.” Grian’s eyes were wide open as he saw the empty expanse of the void through the stained glass windows adorning the walls. “I thought the void hurts when you fall in it.”

“Only for mortals. That fact has kept us safe and hidden for many millennia. No mortal can step through these halls without our protection.”

Grian is quiet for a moment before he looks up at the towering figure above him, a little less afraid of his guardian’s many eyes. “What exactly are we?”

Ah, a wonderful question.

Lowering themself to the Watchling’s height, a few of their eyes glowing and going quickly through images of players going through their lives. “We are Watchers, all-powerful beings with the unique gift to See all. We observe the people, guard servers, and defend those who cannot from forces that try to use their abilities to bring suffering to the many.”

They can see the wonder in the little one’s eyes but a sense of fear fills him when he hears his purpose. “I have to do all of that?”

“Not yet, you are still too young and untrained, but in time I have no doubt you will be one of the best.”

“How do you know?”

A light chuckle escapes Xerver as they get up. “Ah, the question that so many ask. ‘How?’ People always want to know, yet never truly accept the answer.”

The child’s wings ruffle as he straightens up and jogs alongside the powerful being. “I’ll listen, I promise. You’ve seen what I’ve been through, you know I’ll believe you.”

For what they knew would not be the first time, a humored smile crossed their face. “You truly are something else, little sun. Very well then. I am known as the Watcher of the Future. I am one of the eldest Watchers and a leading being on our Council of Magic, you’ll learn what that is in time. With my status and age, I have the ability to see the different futures one can have.”

The little one held onto their every word, and in their mind it was quite adorable. Like a little fledgling with their mother bird. “Under my tutelage you will learn much about your abilities and how to become a powerful Watcher, but first you need to learn the basics.”

“Is that what that EVO place is?”

Wonderful, he was paying attention.

“Indeed. EVO, or Evolution SMP, is our special training ground for young deities. From the outside you and others will look like a server of people traveling through different versions of our world, but in truth you will be learning how to control your powers in a variety of environments. We will be placing trials and tests in the server for all of you to get used to your abilities. Once proven to have acceptable control over your abilities, you will be brought back here for more personal training. Do you understand that?”

The child nods quickly as the duo stops outside a set of double doors. “What are we doing here?”

“It’s time to introduce you to your servermates, and to stop the Listeners from assigning the wrong person as Admin.”

Notes:

Xerver is actually speaking in Galactic the entire time, Grian just is hardwired to understand Galactic so he didn't even notice.
