Work Text:

Rumi sits quietly on her bed when she feels a soft gust of air hitting her face from the open balcony window that she swore she had closed from earlier. That could only mean one thing.

Jinu's here.

Who else could it be? As if he's not the only demon bold enough to teleport onto the balcony of a seasoned hunter.

"You walked out on me" His voice felt calming, despite the heated argument that spawned between the two of them hours ago.

He maintains a safe distance, leaning against the wall, parallel to where she sat, arms crossed, as he watches her every move.

Rumi glances at him for a split second, making sure that he's aware that she at least acknowledges his presence, then avoids his gaze without uttering a single word.

"Now you're not talking to me" He continues in a mellow tone, taking light steps in her direction.

Everyone's aware by now that she possesses a habit of disappearing whenever she's faced with a problem she couldn't solve. This time, someone actually followed, and came to check on her.

"I was a jerk. Sometimes boyfriends can be jerks but that doesn't mean you stop talking to them" Despite his efforts to lecture and talk some sense into her, he still sounded gentle, reassuring. "You get that I'm saying I'm sorry, right?"

This time, Rumi turns to look at him, eyes devoid of any emotion as she spoke in a sullen tone "You were reckless as always, and when I scold you about it, you just walked away. You ignored me the whole day and now you show up here"

"Why wouldn't I show up Rumi? I'm trying to fix our problem"

"Can you just leave me alone?"

She turns her back on him, heart pounding as she waits for his next move. They were bound to fight sooner or later, and when the day came, she actually felt terrified. Because this time, he might actually leave and never seek her out again.

"This is not how it works Rumi" Jinu continues, and she breathes a sigh of relief when she realizes that he's staying even if the reason was to keep on scolding her. She'd never felt so happy to be chastised for her own actions. At least he stayed. "We fight sometimes and then somebody apologizes. That's how a relationship should work"

Is it? I thought it was fight then when you lose an argument, you shut everyone out

"Well how am I supposed to know that?"

A soft smile forms on his lips "You've never done this before" He spoke in sudden clarity and surprise.

"No, I've never done this before. You're my first boyfriend dumbass"

Jinu knew better than to make fun and laugh when she's learning a concept that's foreign to her. But did she really think he'd let her sleep with a heavy heart?

"From now on, you can expect that I will show up"
He smiles, crouching to meet her gaze, then gently cups her face. "Even if I'm wrong, and even if you're wrong, I'll always show up and fix us okay?"

"Okay" She melts into his touch as he pulls her in for a short kiss. For the first time, they've actually resolved a conflict that didn't involve any yelling. "How do you know so much about this? Just how many women have you dated exactly?"

"Just one" he grinned when she looks at him in disbelief. "I would tell you the real number but that might start another fight"

She'd managed to grab a pillow and throw it at his face which he was barely able to dodge, whispering a string of 'I'm joking' in between fits of laughter.

He found it adorable how easily provoked she is.

"Stop frowning already, you look like Celine when you're mad"

This time, the pillow hits him square in the chest and knocks the rest of the sentence out of him.

"What? You like Celine" he tries to argue, although he's already laughing at how red she'd gotten from his teasing.

"Yeah! But you don't like Celine, so it's not exactly a compliment coming from you" She says, throwing another pillow at his head. He ducks. It smacks the headboard instead with a dull thud.

They eventually stopped when Mira came in to check on all the commotion, reprimanding them both for being too loud at this late hour.

"Do you want me here tonight?"

Rumi didn't even need to answer, just patting the spot next to her, as a way of giving him permission. Jinu happily jumps to his side of the bed, tackling her down with him. They'd spoken too many words to settle a disagreement today, they deserve to end the night in peace, with the space between them shrinking until it barely exists at all.
