Work Text:
Rumi felt content after managing to fly home from their biggest world tour yet to witness the first fall of snow in Seoul. The flakes clung to her hair and gathered at the fabric of her coat as she walked the now quiet streets that should've been busy on a normal night.
Jinu waits for her at their usual meeting spot. It was dark but she'd be able to recognise his silhouette anywhere. He wore a scarf above all the other layers, the red one, the one she got him for Christmas last year. His hair looked longer. He looks nice. Slightly different, but nice.
"We haven't seen each other for three months and all you do is stare at me?"
She didn't realize that she was staring. Skype calls and voice chats aren't merely enough to stop herself from missing him too much. And yet she just stood there, exactly a meter away from where he was, fearing that he might vanish if she took another step closer.
She didn't have the heart to miss him all over again.
"I can't remember our last kiss" she spoke softly, as if she's trying to recall an important memory that she shouldn't have forgotten. "I managed to perform on the biggest concert stages across the world, which should have been the best feeling, but all I could think about is how I couldn't remember the last time we kissed"
It was a weird experience for Rumi. To live her dream traveling and performing with her best friends yet instead of feeling fulfilled, she only felt empty- lacking- was it because Jinu wasn't there?
"I know it's pathetic but I want to be able to remember the last time we were together and happy"
She remembers saying goodbye.
She remembers promising to call.
-but never the last kiss.
"Is this your way of saying you miss me?"
His teasing started again and all she could do was sigh and roll her eyes in his direction.
"Forget it" she forfeits with her query and takes a step closer. It's all stupid maybe, no one would ever remember these kinds of things.
"It was a Thursday morning, the day before you left"
She paused on her tracks, just inches away from him when he started to talk, mimicking the softness and longing in her tone from earlier.
"You were wearing your usual gray hoodie and the choo choo train pajamas that you look so good in" Jinu glanced at her direction, a small chuckle escapes him when he sees the crease on her brows vanishing. "You just washed your hair, it smelled like lavender from that conditioner you love to use so much"
Rumi's words were caught in her throat.
How does he remember all this?
"I was running late for work and you're busy packing your things for your tour. You said you were going to see me later. Then you leaned to me- you put your hand on my chest, and then you kissed me" He continues, this time taking her hand and pulling her in for an embrace.
"Soft. It was quick. Kinda like a habit. You know, like we'd do it everyday for the rest of our lives" Jinu didn't know if she could hear the cracks in his voice when he recalled that part. For if he knew that it'd be the last time they'd be sharing a kiss for a long time, he would've kissed her longer.
"You went back to packing your things and I went to work. That was the last time we kissed" he finished his little story with a soft smile.
Rumi just looks at him with an unreadable expression. Her eyes glistened, almost like they're asking him for some sort of explanation. Jinu just laughs at this, patting away gently the snowflakes that landed on her hair.
"You remembered"
"It's impossible to forget" he succumbed, losing the 'who yearns for who more' contest once again.
"I miss you" this time, she surrenders first, leaning impossibly closer to his embrace.
"I-" barely survived without you "-miss you too" he settles for that, all glad that she's finally back in his arms again. Exactly where she should be.
And when his lips finally touched hers, it wasn’t urgent. It wasn’t desperate. It was slow. He kissed her as though time had stretched just for them, as though there was no need to hurry ever again.
