Work Text:
Moving into a place of their own after getting married wouldn't be possible without the minor setbacks. It's only been a week since the move and the house still lacks that familiar homey feeling.
Rumi bursts into their new kitchen with her sword at hand when she hears an almost familiar scream - one her husband makes when he's 'jumpscared'.
And what a sight to behold. Jinu crouched on top of their kitchen island, using the frying pan as a shield from something he's currently scouting on the floor.
"Jinu? What are you doing up there?"
"Stop! Stay away from that side of the room!"
She flinched, stopping on her tracks at the urgency in his tone. Her sight followed to where he was pointing and frowned when she spotted nothing.
"What am I looking at exactly?"
The spider made the fatal mistake of shifting slightly across the tile, and Jinu yelped.
Ah. so that's what
Rumi relaxed from her fighting stance, making her sword vanish into thin air in less than a second, sighing deeply when she pieced out everything.
"That's a spider"
"It can eat me," he tried to argue.
"A small one"
"I don't trust anything that walks on eight legs."
Rumi shakes her head in disbelief, the crouched down to where the spider is located.
"Wife? What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"I'm going to trap it and set it free outside where it couldn't eat you"
Balancing carefully, she placed the glass over the spider in one smooth motion. There was a soft tick as it bumped the inside. Right after, she slides a card under the glass, successfully trapping it.
Jinu finally breathed a sigh of relief, setting aside his makeshift shield, when his mind conjured up another dilemma "- it could just come back inside, right?"
His wife shrugs, opening the kitchen backdoor to release the miniature spider outside. "Probably, when it rains"
"Then we have to do something else"
"Like what? Reinforce the doors with steel? Make the little guy pay rent?"
He thinks for a few seconds, then his expression morphed, matching someone who'd just gotten their 'aha' moment.
"We're gonna have to move" he beams at his wife.
Rumi scoffs, thinking that he's just joking, but once she realizes that he's serious, she tries to reason out.
"But I like this house~"
"Or I'm thinking we could just give him the kitchen. Trap him here and just board off the entire room so we can evacuate safely"
"Jinu, you love this kitchen. This is literally your most favourite part of the house"
"It's a small sacrifice for our safety"
Our safety
She wanted to laugh and mock but instead, she continued playing the role of the compassionate wife.
"My how considerate of you husband! But I have a better idea. Why don't I just get rid of it again if it happens to crawl back inside the house" she tells him ever so lovingly, her arms open, head tilted lightly, as she gestured for him to leave the counter.
"Is it gone? Is it safe to come down?" He asks about the spider again for safe measure, already scampering back to his feet.
"It's free. Probably telling It's friends that he made a 400 year old demon shriek in absolute terror"
"I did no such thing!"
Rumi already had a permanent grin plastered on her face. "Seriously? You served the demon king for centuries and you're afraid of a little spider?
"In my defense, there are only two things I'm scared of. That spider and you. Not in that particular order."
Rumi rolls her eyes at him before walking over to the kitchen sink.
"What are you doing?" He asks firmly when she grabbed the sponge and started working on the dishes.
"Clearing out the plates after you've abandoned in favor of protecting yourself from an inch long spider"
Jinu stepped forwar, gently catching her wrist, and pries the sponge away from her grasp. "No wife of mine will be caught doing chores"
"But I want to help"
"Let's make a pact okay?" He tells her calmly "I do all the chores while you get rid of all the spiders. Deal?"
"Deal" Rumi sighs, having learned that there was no use arguing with him over this. He'd do everything for her if he could.
They've been living here for a week, but it's the first time this place actually felt like home.
Home isn't always four walls with a roof
Sometimes, it's that handsome boy with a cute smile. One who thinks ragebaiting you is hilarious. And is most definitely afraid of the creepy crawlies that might spawn on your kitchen floor.
