Work Text:
You should have seen this coming. It's silly you didn't.
You have a lot of time to think as you lay on a cold metal operating table. You feel yourself drifting out of consciousness, as you look to the side to see the reason you're laying here.
Him. The Prototype. Experiment 1006. You always preferred to refer to the kids but their real names, however. Despite the conditioning the scientists tried to enforce.
“..Oliver?” Your voice comes out as a rasp, your throat hoarse from screaming. There was so much blood as you witnessed your coworkers being ripped apart.
“It's alright,” you hear him say your name, his speech switching to a different person’s voice many times as he speaks. “You've always been there for me through everything, now I can be there for you.” You can barely see around him, seeming to sort through different tools on a table with his long, pointed fingers.
You feel more drowsy as you lay your head back down on the hard service, and you start to reflect. Never would you have thought you'd end up here after being hired as a child psychiatrist for Playtime Co. You knew of their onsite orphanage, Playcare, and assumed you'd just be there for the kids. Well, it was like that at first.
You eventually were informed about the experiments, and that you'd be observing and documenting mental changes on the children after they're turned into toys. You thought the Bigger Bodies Initiative was sick and twisted, but you wanted to be there for the children. You formed close bonds with many of them. Theodore was one you remember fondly. But then he was changed into CatNap. There were so many poor kids.. Poppy, Huggy, Kissy, Mommy, etc. You always treated them the best you could, and when other employees weren't around you'd refer to them by their actual names, if you knew them.
One day, you were checking in on Theodore before he was changed, and you heard him talking to someone. He mentioned a friend, but you didn't see anyone. He did say something about a jester. You later did some digging through files and found out about 1006. Oliver Ludwig.
You're brought back to the present as you hear voices speaking to you once more. “You were always an angel to everyone. I'm glad I did find you on that fateful day. We couldn't have done all of this without you.” You recall what he's talking about. The day you met.
You were walking to a more isolated part of the facility, feeling very upset and needing a moment away from everyone. The scientists didn't seem to like you, almost all of them. You were handing in a report about your recent observations to Dr. Harley Sawyer, and you overheard others talking about you nearby. How you're a liability and that you'd probably ‘disappear' soon if you didn't stop being so ‘soft.’ You already were having a terrible day and it sent you over the edge.
So now you're here, sitting against a wall with your head in your hands. Then, he found you. You hear metallic sounds and you look up through your tears, and finally see him. He asked a lot of questions about you, and seemed slightly shocked when you called him Oliver. Apparently he heard of you through the other kids and experiments.
After that, he'd find you more and more. Eventually you grew quite fond of him. He was intelligent and reminded you of yourself when you were younger in a lot of ways. He looked a little frightening, and you did find out he changed a lot of his own body to his current appearance, and you remember how he reacted when you complimented his intelligence for that. He didn't seem to want to show any of those emotions, however. He'd quickly change the subject after realizing his reactions.
You're snapped back to the current situation as you hear a distant scream and what sounds like a screech from Huggy Wuggy. Which reminds you of how everything got to this. You always felt bad for the kids and wanted to help in some way. You made plans with Preston, the only colleague here you ever got along with, and planned to release the experiments. You always felt terrible for them and he was dealing with immense guilt. But soon, they were slaughtering anyone on sight. It didn't matter if they knew of the experiments or not.
When hiding in a cabinet, you were found by Theo. He didn't hurt you. He simply left and came back with Oliver. Then you were taken here.
You blink your eyes as you realize you are currently seeing movement. Ollie is now looking over you with strange tools. “Don't worry. I'll be quick and efficient. You can be with all of us. Forever. You can belong here, everyone else loves you too.” He checks the binding of you to the table, making sure you can't move. “You can be with me forever.” He says more quietly, using his real voice from before everything that happened to him.
You can't help it anymore. Tears start to fall from your eyes as you feel the last remnants of consciousness leaving your body. The red smoke filling more and more of the room. You feel the sharp tips of his fingers wipe away some of your tears as your vision fades into total darkness.
