when the world falls still

Summary:

Melissa and Trinity share a quiet moment in the still of the night, wrapped in each other's arms.

Notes:

Hi Pitt fandom!

This is my first fic here, but I am a multi-shipper, so I assure y'all it won't be the last. I love this pairing so much. (I've only watched up through Season 1, episode 7, but I've seen spoilers on Tumblr.) Regardless, I'm going to ship what I want. That's how fanfic works. Lol.

I really love Mel and Trinity both on their own, but something about them being together just feels right. <3

Anyways, happy reading! :)

Work Text:

Melissa King, known to some as Mel, lies across her girlfriend's bare chest, holding up her phone above both of them. They are cuddling in bed together while around them the world continues on, unconcerned with who they are or who they love because they are tucked away in Mel's home far from anyone who knows either woman. Trinity is idly stroking through her hair as their eyes watch the virtual orange lava lamp before them, which combined with the way Mel's hair is being moved about, nearly lulls her to sleep.

However, Melissa is hanging on through the foggy state she's been brought to because time off is scarce and when the world falls still is her favorite time of day. It is the one place, other than Trinity's arms, where she feels safe to be herself; safe to exist without others needing her or expecting more than she can give.

A kiss is pressed against Melissa's forehead as Trinity attempts to take her phone, but the former maintains her grasp whilst glancing towards her girlfriend.

"You're nearly asleep," Trinity murmurs, affection evident in her tone.

"I'm not ready to let go," Melissa replies, voice verging on stubborn, though it is sluggish and edging towards slurring.

"Mm, of what, Mel-atonin?" Trinity asks, clearly humoring her.

Mel sighs.

At one time the nicknames Trin doled out confused or irritated her, but Melissa has come to love them as much as she has Trinity. Now, she knows they're done from affection rather than malice. Just as much as she might be to some, her girlfriend is an acquired taste, though one Mel would like to continue savoring in all of her various forms.

"Of this moment, of the quiet." Melissa pauses before adding more softly, "of you."

Trinity's arms tighten around her naked form, then a kiss is pressed to her bare shoulder.

"You won't. I'm here to stay, unless you decide otherwise."

Mel glances up at Trinity and there's a steadiness to her gaze, so she smiles. While the latter contains within her snark for days, there are times Trin knows to be serious; this being one.

Locking her phone, Melissa tosses it off to the side before grasping Trinity's face between her hands.

"That is good to know."

Trinity hums but doesn't otherwise respond.

Instead, their lips meet and in Mel's opinion nothing else could ever taste so sweet.
