Summary
The memory comes back to the forefront. After three weeks of silence, G.U.N and the Resistance came to an agreement and decided to ask for the public's help in hopes of a tip on where he'd been taken. Without Sonic, G.U.N had faltered behind even with Team Dark on task. He slams the file shut immediately, other important documents strewing out in the process. A cocktail of emotions floods his mind. Emotions he doesn't have time to analyze or focus on. The hybrid forces himself to take a breath, in and out, the ringing in his ears is a stark similarity of the gunshot ringing out. A reminder of yet another failure attached to his name.
Like a sick joke, the blue fool in the photo is smiling at him, the light radiating from the photo contrasts Shadow in ways more than one. Freedom in light, trapped in shadows. There's a reason Sonic is refereed to as the Light. A savior.
The laminated paper crumbles in his grip.
Or: After being tricked by an illusion of Maria, Shadow is rescued and nothing bad happens!

His hand flew up, almost on its own accord, hitting himself hard in the chest, where he still felt the cold pit of dread all the way to his core. Sonic felt his heart beating rapidly under his hand and could even vaguely feel the erratic pulse in his ears. He pressed his other hand into his forehead, using it as a makeshift headrest and squeezing his eyes shut. ‘Oh Chaos, he’s dead, I wasn't fast enough..’"

Sonic and Shadow are sharing a hotel room for a G.U.N. mission that Rouge flaked out on. Sonic has a nightmare and wakes up in the middle of the night. Shadow helps him get back to sleep. There is cuddling involved..
