Work Text:
Unfortunately, this situation isn’t unfamiliar to Mon. However, when they’re in a holding cell, it’s usually Vel’s fault. This is entirely hers. When they’re in trouble, the person they call is each other. Since they’re both here, there’s only one other person she can think to call. She waits while the call rings.
“Galactic Antiquities and--”
“Marki! We need you to bail us out.”
“You don’t need to move, it’s just Vel" is murmured softly. Mon frowns, but assumes she’s talking to Luthen.
“We’re in the need of a little assistance, darling.”
“Mon? How’d she drag you into this?”
“Hey!”
“I’m afraid this incident is entirely my fault.”
“Hold on.” There’s the sound of shuffling and Mon can’t help but wonder how often Kleya gets a good night sleep. A decent night without some crisis and she interrupts with a mess. “No, you stay put and sleep.” The whispered words get her attention. Kleya was talking to someone. As she’s getting out of bed. Kleya was sleeping with someone! Mon hates how that makes her want to cry. She also feels enraged, but knows she has no right to. As much as she hates to admit it, Kleya is not hers. Even if the younger woman felt any sort of attraction for her, it’s probably the last thing on her mind. That thought doesn’t help things either. She glances at her cousin. Her cousin is well aware of her attraction to Kleya, but is under the impression it’s a crush that will pass. She looks like she’s stuck in a speeder’s headlights at the moment though.
“Wait! Why are you calling me?”
“Perrin gambles. He was cut off from my accounts years ago.”
“And Leida’s a little young, don’t you think?” adds Vel.
“Alright, where- If you’re going to be out here, you have to be quiet. Where am I headed?” Mon clenches her jaw as she listens to Kleya move around where she is. The thought of someone else getting to see a sleepy Kleya… Her thoughts are interrupted by a loud meow. “I told you to be quiet!” hisses the gallery assistant. It’s followed by two more meows at a louder volume. “I’ll get you something in a minute!” Clearly that’s not soon enough because the creature practically howls. “SHH! I’ll feed you now!” Vel smirks next to her and gives her shoulder a nudge. Mon’s never going to live this down. Being jealous of a loth cat. And with her luck, Vel will mention it at the most inopportune moment.
“When’d you get a loth cat?”
“I didn’t!” growls Kleya on the other end. “Your girlfriend dropped it off. Something about you being allergic?”
“Vel!” she scolds with a look of disapproval.
“I am!”
“I know for a fact you are not.”
“I’m allergic to looking after a pet. Who would feed it when we’re out doing stuff?”
“Oh nice! Like I’ve got nothing better to do…” Mon’s lips twitch into a smirk. She can sense Kleya rolling her eyes. “Where am I headed?”
“To bail us out!” answers Vel irritably.
“I know that! Which station is your holding cell in? Careful, or I’ll only be getting one of you out.” Mon gives her location and Kleya tells them she’ll be there soon. The call ends with her grumbling about there being loth cat hair everywhere.
Back in their holding cell, Mon finds herself still feeling a little jealous of the furry creature. Curled up with Kleya and comfortably asleep. Well, being jealous of a loth cat is better than being jealous of someone that doesn’t exist, right?
