Literature by Chase

Summary:

As much as he loves writing, he fears he isn't as good as he'd hoped.

Or:

"Boulder paints, Chase writes, I watch TV. Oh! I've even seen Heatwave doing yoga!" -Blades

Except I don't see that being a regular thing for Heatwave to do, so I've decided that he likes to read now.

Notes:

Not my first fanfic, but the first I'm proud enough of to post! I've probably tagged it horribly but I couldn't figure out custom tags or how to find tags for Chase.

As I couldn't find the tags:
Chase-centric
Chase needs a hug
(And he gets a kiss instead)

Enjoy!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Chase loves writing. Though he unfortunately lacks the understanding of what does and doesn't need detailed descriptions.

He wrote in his A1 notebook, a hard find in itself, let alone on such a small island. Cody spent a long while searching online to get one for him.

-

It was 8:42 at night, the man chuckled at the sight of two pedestrians unsure when to cross the busy street. To his horror, they ran across. What people call, "jaywalking".

But he was no police officer, he was utterly helpless to this horrific event. Quickly, the man ran to the officer close by, but he was seemingly preoccupied consuming a donut.

By this point, the time was 8:56, and his watch, a small accessory fastened to the wrist, faulty and showed 10 minutes in the future. The man knew this, so he counted back by 10, meaning that in reality, the time was 8:46.

He sighed. There was nothing he could do to justify this broken law. Rendered useless, he slumped and walked home. Safely, and avoiding areas with heavy traffic, as that introduces higher risk of mistake and injury.

Hoc non est Anglicum. Approximately 8 days and 17 hours after the incident, the man walked out of the police department. His job interview was successful, and he was overjoyed to be able to bring justice to all jaywalkers he encounters. When he starts on Monday, of course.

Chase put down his large pen and grumbled. He hates crossing things out. It looks entirely unprofessional and frankly, quite embarrassing.

He stood up from the box beside the couch and approached his teammate.

"Heatwave? I have attempted at human literature, but I believe I have failed. It lacks the thought of human perception, and comes across as bland." He says, disappointed in himself.

"I'm sure it's fine, Siren. Let me see." He holds out a servo to see the book.

Chase smiles at the nickname, then reluctantly hands him his hard work.

Heatwave reads through it, smiling at the accidental Latin sentence. It's a little direct, sure. Elaborately explaining things that didn't need explaining, but it was Chase's writing, so he wouldn't change a thing.

"...It's, unique." He manages to comment. Primus, why was he so bad at conveying opinions. He loves it.

"Is that a critical remark?" Chase asks. "Do not worry, I understand that it is amateur."

"Don't say that. It's perfect." He hands the book back and rests his servo on Chase's shoulder.

"I-... I enjoy reading everything you write." And that's about as genuine as he can sound.

Thankfully, Chase will always be the one to understand no matter how grumpy Heatwave may sound. He loves him for that, but those are words he might never be able to say.

But Chase knows.

---

One night, when all their human companions had gone to sleep, the four autobots were left to themselves in the bunker.

Heatwave was reading a book that looked comically small in his hand. Chase had recommended it to him. "The Firefighter and the Cop". He'd said it was quite fitting to their dynamic. Heatwave smirked, well aware that he searched long and hard to find something like this.

As he was reading, Blades, ever so subtly walked over.

"Are you... READING?!" Blades cried.

Heatwave slammed the book shut and slid it behind him.

"Uh, no! Of course not." He said after clearing his throat.

"Aww!! That's so sweet! Do you read all of Chase's books?" Blades exclaimed, hopping up and down in excitement.

Heatwave sighed, glanced at Chase from across the room, then answered. "...Yes."

Blades lit up, somehow even more than he already had. He was so happy to see Heatwave finally pick up an earth hobby that wasnt punching a poor, abused wooden log all day.

Then he gasped. "Boulder could illustrate Chase's books!! You could proof read them, and I... could advertise them to the town!"

Heatwave grumbled and crossed his arms.

"Can you go back to not knowing about my hobbies?"

"HobbIES? PLURAL?! TELL ME MORE!"

"Oh for Primus' sake."

---

Chase picks up his book and sits. A smile on his face, and a pen in his hand.

He got the idea of giving the main character a love interest, for... reasons. Boulder had also pointed out that his characters needed names.

-

Chester and his boyfriend Herwin were walking down the street of the incident so long ago. The street that those two pedestrians had jaywalked over.

It had been 6 months and 12 days since then. But that was the day that Chester had decided that too much was too much. He became an officer of the law, and met his beautiful boyfriend Herwin.

They held servos hands as they walked. Herwin looked up to Chester and spoke, "All is okay Chester, we have removed all possibility of jaywalking on this street. You have given justice to the event."

Chester smiled. "Thank you, Herwin. I am aware that my actions assisted people to understand that it is not okay to get run over by a car."

They continued their walk, Jag vet inte vad jag säger, men det här är inte heller engelska. Of course, they were refreshed on the Highway Code, so they knew not to cross when the illuminating red man showed on the screen.

But when the green man appeared, the couple looked at each other, then at the road, tightening their hold on their hands, then ran across, laughing in joy as they crossed the road as the law told them to.

Running off into the sunset that was the other side of the road, Chester wondered. Was this the true reason why the feathered farm animal crossed the busy streets? He was unsure. But they were about to find out what was on the other side, without implying slang terms that Chester did not understand.

And they got eaten by giant space monsters both lived happily ever after.

Unless, perhaps, there is a sequel.

-

Chase signed the last page, closed the book, and set his pen down. Proud, not insecure of his writing style in the slightest.

He handed the finished book to Heatwave, who spent the rest of the day reading it over and over.

And finally.

"...Chester and Herwin are too similar to our names to be accidental." Heatwave accused teasingly.

"And you only took notice of it on your 6th read?" Chase smiled.

Heatwave returned the smile, then remembered a certain scene Chase had written.

"You know I'm not much of a dancer."

Chase flushed blue on his cheeks. "Of course. I... had forgotten I'd kept that in."

To his surprise, his... teammate? Conjunx? Partner? Heatwave held out his servo and said "If we're both going to be scrap at it, I wouldn't mind giving it a try."

So of course, Chase took his servo. Stumbled a step forward, trying to mirror Heatwave, bringing their servos between both of their chest plates (chassis?), then stepping back.

Herwin interlocks his left arm with Chester's right, then they make an arch above them with the remaining two.

Heatwave guides a step forward, then back, then to the left, and right. Repeating the pattern a few times, he spins and brings Chase beside him.

Chester hesitates, yet Herwin's confidence brings them one step forward, two steps back. One step forward, two steps back. Then, they extend their arms, holding hands, walking a semicircle, swapping and walking the other way.

Chase stumbles. Heatwave catches him easily. They continue, repeating what they did at the start, stepping forward, holding servos between their chest plates, extending their arms as they take a step back.

They repeat this a few times, until...

Herwin led Chester to twirl, holding his fist up and stabilising him so he didn't fall.

Heatwave then brought Chase down into a dip, holding him there for a moment, looking at him intently.

"I... skipped the next part when I wrote the stor--"

Heatwave didn't. He kissed him gently, passionately. Was that seriously their first kiss? Chase didn't know, he simply returned it with just as much love.

Herwin smiles and brings Chester back up.

The duo hugged, helms bumped together.

Heatwave pulls back awkwardly, but not without kissing Chase on the forehead, servo on Chase's cheek.

Behind them... they suddenly heard cheering. The couple had never turned around so quickly.

There stood Blades and Boulder. Both clapping, Blades cheering.

"How long have you been watching?" Heatwave demanded.

"Uh, since 'If we're both gonna be scrap at it', which, no you weren't!" Blades said with a grin.

"Those were impressive moves given that this was your... first dance?" Boulder complimented.

Chase glanced at Heatwave, who nodded. But Chase had to correct that.

"Second, actually. Our first was at Maccadam's on Cybertron when Heatwave refused my suggestion of only one drink."

"...What?!" Heatwave yelled.

Blades started cackling. Literally cackling. Boulder began to laugh too. Heck, it even got a chuckle out of Chase!

All Heatwave gave was a grumble, but he smiled.

"Though I must say, you are.. quite the sight when you've drunk a significant amount of energon." Chase added.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Heatwave smirked.

"It means he thinks you're hot!!" Blades exclaimed, only to get a glare from Heatwave, he yelped and hid behind Boulder.

In conclusion, Heatwave loves Chase's writing, Chase loves... everything about Heatwave. They love each other, and they're terrible at communicating.

And they were all eaten by giant space monsters all lived happily ever after.

Notes:

The "eaten by giant space monsters" thing is a joke throughout Once Upon a Time (S4 E19) where they say that Cybertron doesn't have "happily ever after" they have "eaten by giant space monsters", and it's a running joke throughout the episode.

Also, I haven't read The Firefighter and the Cop, but I've read summaries. I was trying to find something that Chase would actually show Heatwave, and that one seemed too perfect not to choose. Might actually read it tbh lmao

I'M SORRY BOULDER!! I ONLY GAVE YOU ONE LINE IM SO SORRY MY BOYY AGHHH
