Summary
Ilya Rozanov has spent seven years building a life that works without Shane Hollander in it after they broke up following their argument on the day of Bood's Boxing Day party.
He has been careful about building his life back up. He has two Stanley Cups under the Ottawa Centaurs, three in total, his beautiful dog Anya, a therapist named Galina who has done genuinely excellent work, and a team in Ottawa that feels, on the best days, like something close to family. He came out. He got help. He has learned, with considerable effort, how to survive and thrive even when he feels like there’s a huge hole in his heart where Shane Hollander used to be.
Then an injury forces Shane to retire. And Ilya, who has long since closed that door, or has told himself he has, which is not quite the same thing, finds that the door was never as closed as he thought.
