May sways as she watches the sunset glow slowly begin to disappear.
The smell of burgers on the grill and hot dogs roasting over the bonfire wafts through the breeze of the wind dancing through the trees.
It's a nice night.
She's out with Ian, and some of his nursing friends.
But all she can think about is how nice this would be if Ravi were here, especially with how alone she feels in the crowd.
"Oh shit! The fire's jumping!" calls someone, maybe Lina, in a panic, and May's first instinct is to immediately call 9-1-1 as she turns to see the fire catch on the grass..
"9-1-1, what's your emergency?"
"Josh, it's May. I need a firetruck at the Valley Park off 22nd. We were grilling and started a bonfire, but the flames jumped. Hurry. I can't see them because I'm near the cliff edge," May's quick as she relays the information and starts looking for something to slow the fire down.
Josh pops off and right back on.
"What can you see?"
"A cloud of smoke. Josh, I don't have anything on this side to slow this down."" replies May quietly.
"I know, but the 118 is three minutes out," offers Josh gently. "Are you okay? Still got some distance from the cliff's edge?"
"May! May, are you okay?!" Ian's voice is full of panic, but May doesn't get why.
"I'm on the phone with 9-1-1, I'm fine!" snaps May as she twists away from the flames, lowering her voice. "I've got maybe five steps before I'm forced over by the flames."
"Why are you lying to Ian?" asks Josh curiously, and May groans.
"Because he asked me here, to meet his nurse friends, and they spent the whole time ignoring me," explains May as she steps closer to the cliff, a faint siren sounding. "The smoke's getting worse, Josh."
"How is the fire?" asks Josh seriously as the sirens wail louder.
"Bigger, but I still have some room, shit!" yelps May as she has to jerk forward, losing some footing. "Okay, maybe it's time to panic a bit more."
"May! We're coming!" calls Ravi loudly as the flames start dying out.
It's slow, and May screams as another step back has her falling backwards.
"I've got you, Princess," Ravi tugs her in, her feet leaving the ground as he twists to get them back on even ground. "I've got you. Just breathe."
"Fuck, that scared the shit out of me," gasps May as she buries her face in Ravi's shoulder.
She's surrounded by warmth as Buck and Harry join Ravi at her side, checking on her while Eddie and Hen deal with the nurses. She briefly glances up with other warmth joins Ravi's, but her face stays buried where it's safest.
Ravi's shoulder.
"You'll need checked for smoke inhalation," murmurs Ravi softly as he presses his lips to her temple.
She nods but doesn't move.
May isn't leaving Ravi's side.
