Chapter Text
Owen didn't notice himself become visible again as he stalked the town, looking for information before finding Legundo.
Abolish had made some good points about change and second chances, but that was for others, not for monsters like Legundo and Owen himself. They needed to suffer, and that's what he planned for-
Suddenly, he's grabbed by a strong hand and pulled between houses. He instantly bares his teeth, expecting a fight, but is pressed against the wall and forced to look at Legs.
"What are you doing here, Owen?"
"How did you-"
"Your invisibility wore off. What are you planning?" Owen wrinkles his nose at Legs’ harsh tone but gives back a bitter smile.
"Nothing, just looking for information from your companions. They can be such blabber mouths."
"Then you should be paying attention to your abilities because they're on the hunt for you." Legundo's eyes are tightened into a glare but Owen can see the worry there, so begrudgingly bites back the snark he had ready, asking a question instead.
"Why exactly?"
Doc gives him a flat look. "You can't be serious."
"No, genuinely. I have not turned anyone. They'd be wasting their energy." Owen tries to shove Legs’ hand off his shoulder, but the grip only gets tighter.
"You're a threat, Owen,” Legs hisses.
"Good, they deserve to be scared."
"They're turning that fear into anger, and you being all cocky is going to get you killed."
"Why do you care, doctor?"
"I- because I promised to help you." Legs looks vulnerable for a moment, losing most of the anger, and loosening his grip.
"And I told you, I don't need or want your help, so give up, Legs." Owen finally is able to brush off Legundo's hand and begins to walk away, but Legs grabs him again, gripping his shoulder. Owen growls under his breath, glaring at the other man, about to retort but Legs beats him to it.
"I won't. I see it in you, that spark of something more. You are not just a terror of the night; you are a person, Owen. And you deserve to have a chance to be one."
"I am a lost cause, doctor. I gave up any chances long ago." Owen glares at the ground, flashes of blood and death invading his mind. His doing, all of it.
"No, we have an opportunity-"
"I will not be taking your cure!" He snapped automatically, despite telling Abolish otherwise. It was practically on instinct.
"I know you feel like you'd lose what you have left of Louis, but Owen, if you really care about him, he will always be with you! Please, consider. Maybe it's time to let go of this vampirism, to try again."
Those words made him hesitate. He'd been considering something of the sort. That it was time to release Louis, leave the vampires who didn't even care, but then again, neither did the humans.
"I see you thinking about it." The words brought Owen back, not realizing he’d been silent long enough for Leg’s to see his thoughts.
Owen reels at the statement, wanting to simply brush it off, but it has always been harder to lie to Legundo. "Would the humans even accept me? After all I've done? Tell me honestly, wouldn't it just be easier to have me be human and kill me that way?"
"I wouldn't let that happen,” Legs says confidently, hand flexing on Owen's shoulder in a reassuring, protective way.
"Oh, and why not?" Owen challenged.
Legs pauses, glancing away before taking a deep breath, preparing himself. He meets Owen's eyes again, emotions bare. "Because I care about you."
Owen's eyes widen, the words catching him off guard, but he shakes his head. "No, you don't."
"I do, Owen, truly."
"Then prove it," he says harshly, not wanting to believe it, even as he saw it in the doctor's eyes.
There’s hesitance and Owen could have taken that as an answer. Legs’ grip was loose enough for him to pull away and leave but he found himself waiting, wanting the proof. So, he stood there in his grip for a quiet moment, letting Legs’ hand slide up his neck as he grabbed Owen's face and pulled him into a kiss.
