Work Text:

Another sleepless night came by as Derek laid still in his bed. It was soft and safe here—he has to admit—but against all of his luck the sleep just didn't want to welcome him with open arms.

He didn't have to check the time to know it's already past midnight which made him quite dissapointed as that mean Avery was most likely asleep.

Small part of him hoped that he will fall asleep during this night, but he knows he won't—it's just how these nights work.

He still tried laying there, pretending to be oh so tired in hopes to actually get some rest. It got boring very quickly and sleep just didn't seem to notice him.

He sat up on the bed before throwing his legs off to the ground and heading off to Avery's room. He hopefully wouldn't mind an unexpected visitor.

As he opened the doors he aimed his attention to the slime who was peacefully sleeping, tucked in like a kid who's mom just told them a bedtime story.

Something about seeing him so calm—with a steady breathing rhythm and a relaxed posture just helped him relax a tension he didn't even know he held.

Derek started walking towards his bed before crouching next to it. His arm lingered above Avery while he thought about doing this or retreating.

Seconds passed by and he almost went to give up though somebody has different plans.

"Hmh Der? S' that you?", his voice tingled with tiredness as his mind tried to awake itself.

"Oh.. yeah, it's me. Sorry for bothering you...", he went to stand back up though Avery decided to roll around so he could see Derek better. "Now paus' for second would y'? You definitely need s'mth to be here.'

Derek froze as he got looked through by Avery even when he's basically asleep.

"Well I couldn't sleep.. so I wanted to ask if I could stay for tonight?", he was unsure of his decisions though he still managed to push through.

Avery looked over at him—squinting his eyes as it will help him hear the question—before scooting over and tapping his hand, creating new space for him to lay on.

Derek gladly accepted it and got undercovers next to Avery who was now already on the mix between falling asleep and awake.

He snuggled in slightly closer to Avery and as he did Avery just hugged him by waist and pulling him closer. His arms were warm and soft to the touch. He burried his head into Avery's neck as he felt sleep slipping in.

Avery took that chance and started caressing his headwings which were softer than the clouds, they were soft and fragile, but so gorgeous and taken care off.

The warmth spread from his wings to his heart and to his face, it was so lovely he shifted from crook of Avery's neck to his chest, burrowing deeper and reaching in closer.

Avery's hand kept shuffling trough his feathers and he was so careful not to push or pull too hard, to not destroy or mess up his feathers. It was just such a relaxing feeling it got him especially tired and sleep was near the corner, ready to pull him in.

Few tired hums were heard as Derek slowly fell asleep in hands of Avery, him following soon enough once he got tired from going through his feathers.
