Summary
“I’ll think about it,” Jo mumbles as he hugs himself.
“Don’t think too hard,” Yudai closes his eyes. “You think so loudly. I can hear it all from here.”
Jo’s heart hammers out of his chest. “I’m sorry.”
Jo turns his head back towards the sky. He’s back to staring at the stars, shivering in the crisp night breeze. Could Jo fit in? Could he—does he—shine as brightly as the other stars?
Jo could be a star. Maybe if he tried a little harder. Maybe if he stopped waiting for the waves around him to decide his fate, he might be able to shine as bright as Yudai does.
For tonight, Jo is satisfied being devoid of light. He’s happy enough existing around Yudai’s warmth, indulging in his kindness for as long as he offers it.
