Ponyboy lowkey plays matchmaker, reader is part of Shepard's gang, making out in the bathroom, Steve is mentioned to give Johnny the girls are trouble talk however gender of reader is never mentioned (I actually wrote this with the intention that it would be really funny if someone in Darry's gang is like "girls are trouble!!" and then Johnny goes and kisses a guy), reader has subtle beef with like most of Darry's gang

You and Johnny had met through Ponyboy, Pony hadn't actually thought you two would get along it was purely just coincidence. Ponyboy was friends with Curly, or acquaintance you actually weren't quite sure. You did Ponyboy's homework for him once—don't tell his brothers—so you had came to the lot to give it back to him and that's where you met Johnny, neither of you talked to each other at first until Ponyboy introduced you both. Just brief names and how you were a really good tutor, you wouldn't call yourself that you just liked keeping yourself busy; and if that meant doing random kids homework so be it.
Johnny didn't actively go to school but he was technically still in school, so the very occasional time he went he would always get a stack of homework. When Ponyboy didn't understand something at school—which was rare but not super rare—he would always try and see if you would meet him at the lot later since you were like one of the few school smart greasers, Johnny would always be there and sometimes he would listen to the way you would explain things to Ponyboy. Johnny thought your voice was nice and he also thought you explained things very well, he was a smart boy but he didn't pick up on things when they were thrown at him and you explained things in a way he understood.
You always vaguely wondered why he didn't just ask Darrel for homework help you were pretty sure he was smart but it wasn't like you were super close to any of Darrel's gang so maybe you were wrong, Ponyboy wanting tutoring increased more and Johnny was always there you were starting to question his intentions. One of the times you denied him since Tim really wanted you to do something that night, he looked like a kicked puppy he probably wasn't trying to pout over being denied but he was definitely pouting, you vividly remember hearing him mumble something about how Johnny was going to be disappointed. You were pretty sure he was trying to guilt trip you or he wasn't and you were just too used to being guilt tripped, you started wondering if they both were trying to become friends and he just sucked at asking to hang out.
You were right about that, Ponyboy eventually came clean when you began questioning him. You cut him slack because Ponyboy was just a kid and Johnny seemed like you and didn't talk a lot, or he was cautious which you also related to. Ponyboy asked to hang out at the lot, no homework, no teaching—you almost denied him but in a way he kinda reminded you of Curly and Johnny seemed interesting… You gave in after Ponyboy said please twice, you didn't want to hear ten 'pleaasseeee's you think you might would have lost your patience.
You got along with them both surprisingly, that day at the lot a friendship had bloomed between you three. Although you would never admit that at the time, Pony would try to hang out a lot more often after that and even Johnny came around to ask one of those times. Sometimes you would deny Ponyboy's hangout just to be petty if you were mad over something someone in Darrel's gang did, you didn't like most of Darrel's gang but maybe Johnny and Ponyboy weren't that bad.
Sometimes you went out of your way to hang out in the lot with just Johnny, you two started becoming really close in a way you weren't quite sure about. Tim and Curly were starting to question who you were spending your time with, you always avoided their questions; Angela would mind her business but even you saw that she was vaguely curious too, you were pretty sure they all thought you were dating someone and at first that wasn't true.
Johnny was also starting to get raised brows whenever he said he was busy, it was starting to really bug the gang they didn't want to assume that Johnny was seeing someone without telling them but they were all starting to question it; especially when Ponyboy made a face once when Johnny said he had plans, Steve gave the 'girls will give you trouble' talk to Johnny again after that. Today Johnny had invited you to the Drive In, and today you actually said yes—usually you didn't accept going to the Drive In simply because you liked keeping busy and sitting and watching a movie wasn't keeping busy in your textbook, but for some reason you accepted—you didn't tell anyone you were going since you didn't want them bugging you and apparently Johnny didn't either.
You felt light around Johnny today like everything in the world was good, the movie playing on the screen wasn't bad and usually you didn't like the movies they played here; so you liking it was a surprise. You two were sharing a popcorn and talking about something that made you laugh, he was smiling at you and you just noticed that you really liked his smile. Johnny was so pretty, you found yourself thinking; you paused for a moment after thinking that, that's weird you never really think things like that. "I have to go to the bathroom." You said quickly and stood up, there was a bathroom in the concession area where you got popcorn earlier. Johnny hesitated before standing up with you "I need to go too." What was originally a plan to freak out in the bathroom ended up being a different freak out in the bathroom.
You genuinely had no idea how this started, the bathroom was just one room not a bunch of stalls the line was slightly long but it actually went by super quick you both went in at the same time since you didn't care to face a wall while someone peed. When you both got in the room you both stood awkwardly at first, you realized you actually didn't have to pee and you were starting to think Johnny didn't have to either. He was acting all nervous and you didn't understand why until he faced you and your lips very softly met, well maybe Tim's hunch wasn't wrong afterall. You didn't pull away and when Johnny tried to you ended up putting your hand in his hair and deepening the kiss, what was originally supposed to be a sweet chaste kiss ended up getting quite heated.
Tongues were intertwining and the only sound in the room was your lips meeting, you two were only pulling away when you needed to breathe. You weren't sure how long it lasted but it was clearly long enough when someone banged on the door, you both ignored it at first. You had moved down to kiss his jaw and neck he softly panted your name, your hand was in his hair and the other was around his waist. You realized you were kinda taking this too far and you pulled back, facing his pretty and flushed face. You messed with his curls while your breathing intertwined, you both pulled away neither of you really asked any questions the way Johnny held your hand while you walked back to the movie said enough.
You walked Johnny back home after the movie during the walk he mumbled something about Dally probably going to hate you, whatever that meant… You didn't bother questioning that, you assumed Dally was Dallas Winston and yeah that was the last guy you wanted to meet. You left Johnny to go back to your place, you were trying to decide if you wanted to tell Tim that you made out with someone from Darrel's gang but you eventually decided against it you were pretty sure he was asleep; it was pretty late. Looking back and knowing what you know now you wondered if Ponyboy introduced you two in the lot on purpose, you wondered if he saw you as Shepard gang's pet the way Johnny was seen in Darrel's gang.
