Haven't I Give Enough?

Summary:

Parrot is going through a tough time, his parents do nothing about it and an unexpected person comforts him.

Notes:

Yes, the title is from the song.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Parrot has never felt so down before.

His life is fucked up and his parents, the people who were supposed to be there for him, are more focused on their work rather than their own son.

His mother, a beautiful woman with blond hair and gorgeous purple eyes, was a known model and actor, his father, a genius businessman and author of a book about mental health. Ironic that his book is about caring for someone when he can't even notice his child.

They didn't even know he's planning on taking the hero exam, something he has mentioned basically all his life!

It was unfair, seeing children bonding with their parents, they were always too busy for him, he supposed.

But still, he felt like he was drowning, desperately calling out to his parents, only to be ignored completely.

"Maybe you're just tired, Parrot."

"I have a shoot, I can't take you there."

"What do you mean a therapist? You're perfectly fine!"

He tried telling his parents about the pain, but they never even spared him a glance. The pain only grew and his heart started to ache everyday.

Parrot glances at the clock, 7:19, the exam starts at 9, he should probably get up. He looks at his wrists, covered in cut marks, cuts that he made to ease the pain. He groggily gets up from his bed and puts on a dark grey hoodie with jeans.

He looks at himself in the mirror, fuck, he looks bad.

He heads down to the dining room, his father in the phone with an investor, his mother? Already left for work before he even woke up.

He sits down at the table and looks at his breakfast. He doesn't even bother to touch it, he just... looks at it, his eyes, empty.

"Good morning dad..."

"Hm? Oh, Parrot, when did you get here?"

Of course his own father wouldn't notice he was there.

"Why aren't you eating?"

"Well..."

"Nevermind, I'm going to the office now. Study well."

"Okay dad..."

Parrot's father left and got in the family car. He turned the tv on Daybreak News, it showed the Starlight Hero, Cynnika Aculon.

She used to be a Daylight Villain until what was called, The State Incident, where Emperor Schpood granted them amnesty, if they were to undergo rehabilitation. Which she and her crew gladly accepted.

She was in a interview, journalists and reporters asking questions about the skyrocketing murder rates by Circus Bunny.

Circus Bunny is one of the most feared Midnight Villains ever. She murdered over 20 people in the span of a week, some being political leaders, others being actual heroes.

Mysticat, a strong and kind Starlight Hero, was sent to disarm her, only to be found hours later dead in an alleyway. Fans mourned the death of the beloved hero, she was even able to kill a CEO of a company responsible for most of the trades coming in and out, leaving the country in disarray for weeks until they found a replacement.

Circus Bunny is chaotic, insane, and quick. No hero of vigilante has been able to take her down.

"We will capture Circus Bunny, and we will bring justice to her victims. Thank you."

Those were Cynnika's last words before heading out of the building. Shit, Parrot needs to go if he wants to make the bus.

Parrot didn't eat a single bite of food, and instead went straight for the door. He quickly ran to the bus stop, no buses yet, he checks the time, 7:49, there should be a bus for 8:00, so Parrot breathed a sigh of relief and took out his phone.

As usual, vloggers and influencers are talking online about Cynnika's recent interview and other hero scandals.

He scrolled down to an influencer, Midmystic, she posts on a freedom wall online, her post had a picture with Sharpness and Judelow walking out of a restaurant together, it read, "Friends? Or Lovers?".

He clicked on it and was led to an article with Midmystic's comment on the top.

Is Sharpness and Judelow dating? Like they're really close all the time and barely leaves each others side. Is this a hint???

He scrolled through the comments with agreements and full on arguements happening. He didn't really care, he had his own problems to deal with.

He sees the bus and puts his phone back in his pocket, he looks around for an empty spot before sitting down near the window.

The bus ride should only take thirty minutes, so he still has time to prepare. He was mentally asking himself questions that might appear on the test, when someone flicked his head.

He looks to his side and sees a purple blob... guy? With an angel hybrid next to him.

"Ya taking the hero exam too Parrot?", the purple man said with his smug smile, he almost wanted to bash his head into the floor.

"Yes... and you are?"

"Wemmbu. And this is my brother, Egg.", he pointed behind him to the angel sitting down.

"Which family?"

"Halo.", the seraphim replied with.

He hasn't heard their names before. Ordinary people can only dream of getting in UU Heroics, since it was usually the influential families that get in. It was practically hoping for the impossible if you weren't rich or had another family member there.

"Strange. I've never heard of your family."

"We're middle class.", Wemmbu added quickly... too quickly...

"Sure..."

The three of them remained quiet for a long time before Wemmbu spoke up again.

"Y'know, you look... horrible."

"What?"

"Yeah, you do. Are you good? Like at home?"

Parrot stayed silent after that, turning his head away in hopes that Wemmbu doesn't see the tears forming at the corner of his eyes.

"Parrot... what happened."

Parrot starts silently crying, he's glad nobody is on the bus, Wemmbu moves closer to him and gives a gentle hug as Egg gets some tissue from his bag.

He then explains the situation and hesitantly shows them the marks. Egg covers his mouth as his lips parted, Wemmbu's face darkens.

"Why didn't you say anything to them?"

"I-I tried... but--"

"Here."

Wemmbu gives him a notebook as the bus finally stopped in front of the building and the brothers take off without a single word.

Parrot looks at the notebook and a piece of paper falls out. He picks it up and reads the shakey handwriting.

Write your feelings in this notebook, it helps Egg, maybe it can help you too. Keep fighting Parrot, we have your back.

Parrot smiles at the note and puts both the notebook and paper in his bag and heads inside the building to find Theo.

Maybe, his real family are the ones who stayed instead of leaving...

Notes:

Parrot, Wemmbu and Egg ended acing the exam along with Flame, Jumper, Theo and others.

I'm gonna make another tech siblings backstory to see why Wemmbu wanted Halo to be their last name.
