Hachi can hear her younger self shrieking at the statement— What? Really? But you're in love! But now, now the sentiment doesn’t surprise her. As much as she wants to believe the relationship she cheered her friend on to maintain was perfect, she knows too well. She knows of the terrible, terrible things that can live nestled in love.
She watches as one of Nana's delicate hands goes to her neck, where she'd usually wear a choker, and is reminded of the way she herself would make the same mistake over and over consciously, until the act of walking back to a man was wired into her muscle memory. Neither of them have ever known anything else.
