Work Text:
Jax stared blankly at Caine. "Today's adventure is.... Dress up Disaster! My young yellow yeast starters, off you go!" The set of disturbingly animated teeth and mismatched floating eyes opened a magenta colored portal. Dressing up was the adventure for today? Really? Was THIS seriously Caine's way of trying to relate to the modern human culture? Because it SUCKS!
"Wow! Are you seeing this s[BEEP!]t Ribsy? R- Ribbit? Ribbit? Heeelloo!" She was ignoring him! Was she seriously still upset about the whole snow thing? She only glanced and walked through the portal without saying a word to him. Rude. "Fine. Be that way, I don't care." But he very much did care.
The adventure looked ridiculous. The neon bright colors that littered the environment made his eyes work overtime. Jax sighed and made his way to the back of the stage in the changing rooms, where the adventure was mostly taking place. "Huh...." Jax looked around. This seemed too boring for him. Maybe he should do a little something to spice things up....
"Jax, hey." Ribbit said. Jax turned around to look at the green frog avatar. Because that is all they are now. "I know things are.... Weird, but-" She sighed. "Seriously, your acting so weird lately. Please, just talk to me." Jax blinked and focused on the rack of pretty dresses he planned on trying on to ruin the whole show. They were the only things that weren't too eyestraining in the changing rooms.
He was a little envious of the girls who got to wear those. "It's nothing. Alright? Stop trying to find a deeper meaning in everything, Ribbit." The frog sighed and walked off to try on some outfits. Jax couldn't take his eyes off the rack nor the other articles of clothing that were reserved for only women. Whatever.
Kinger was fixated on a section of wall that was chipping in the second changing room room. Which didn't even make sense as the circus never aged, nobody did. Kaufmo was in the third room, various garments scattered across his clown shoe feet. Which left Jax. He stared at a black and white polka dot maxi dress with white lace trim on the sleeves that went to the shoulders and on the bottom.
His heart raced as he contemplated wearing the damn thing. It was a stupid dumb dress that Jax was only trying on for the sake of pissing off Caine and Ragatha, the two people in the circus who actually cared about playing the adventures right. So why the hell was Jax so damn nervous? "F[BEEP!]k.... It's just a dress.... Put it on coward...." He thought.
Jax took a deep breath through his non-existent nose and unbuckle his red overalls. The same ones he's worn since he arrived in this damn circus. Jax tried his hardest to not look at his stupid, ugly purple rabbit digital avatar in the mirror. At least the disgusting, probably infected, lines across his arms in the real world weren't on this avatar. Jax fit his head over the head hole and his arms through the sleeves.
He looked in the mirror expecting to look even stupider. Instead he felt a feeling. Like something he'd been confused about since day one of this wretched world was finally solved. He flattened the front of the skirt. For once his weird, overly smoothed out noodley legs looked pretty and soft, and his flat torso had curves he wished he really had.
Jax kind of looked like a girl. He liked it. He liked it? No, what he really liked was the faces of Caine and Ragatha when they saw him in this stupid dress. He gulped and stared at his reflection in the mirror. Jax was still a guy of course. He didn't want to be a girl or anything. But you must admit, he would make a pretty good one!
He laughed and shook his head. No way. She He decided to take it up a notch. He snatched some makeup laying around, he wanted to apply some in order to really sell in the whole girl thing. Only eyeliner and blush, as it was all she he remembered how to do based on what little she remembered in the real world.
There was this brand of makeup his mom used, which he stole from to practice. Cory Cosmetics. He liked that name, Cory. It sounded nice.
"You've been in there for a while now. You done yet? The show's about to start and you know how Caine is when you don't play along." Cory Jax snapped from her trance and gulped. "Yep! Almost done! Just uhhh, fixing my uhmm.... Stuff together, Kaufmo."
The clown avatar shrugged and walked off. She could see that he was wearing a fancy looking burgundy suit pants. Why did she do this? This was a horrible idea! She never should've taken one of those dresses from that damn rack, or makeup laying around, or, or-
She squeezed her eyes and waited until Kaufmo left the changing rooms. It was far too late to back out now. Cory opened the door with shaking hands and stepped out. "Wow Jax, you look great!" She froze in horror. Kinger was still there! Cory had completely forgotten all about the damn guy, why did he have to be so quiet!
"I- It's nothing! I'm only doing this to piss off Caine and Ragatha, I- I don't like it!" Kinger blinked and continued. "You look like a pretty woman!" "I said shut up Kinger!" She gritted through her teeth. So mayybbbeeee there's a slight possibility she might be one of those transgender freaks she'd heard about, no big deal. Not at allll....
The quiet chess avatar piece put a hideous red and yellow stripped scarf around his neck. "It doesn't matter of course. I'm gonna win! See you out there, missus." Jax bit back a grin at being called a miss. "Hey, also. You look fine. Byee" Cory watched him walk out. As much as a chess piece with no legs could walk anyway.
Whatever. She He had a show to ruin and two people to make upset.
Cory Jax could already imagine their faces when they see her him, Jax, the most manly male ever, in a dress for the sole purpose of pissing them off.
Nothing else.
