Chapter Text

Athena is a very busy person. Being the goddess of wisdom she's unfortunately very important on the mountain and being important means she's regularly put through enough stress that it would kill a mortal. So when she's just going through her daily duties and when it suddenly feels like she's been stabbed in the abdomen, she thinks it's just part of her usual aches and pains.

But after a few minutes, the pain gets worse and she starts to think that this isn't normal. She shuffles back to her palace, not wanting to seem weak in public, and she ends up on the floor of her bedroom somehow. She props herself up against her bed and grabbed a pillow off it, her body didn't like that because the pain got 100 times worse.

Athena isn't sure how long it's been but she hears the door open and Pallas loudly walk in. "Hey babe!" She called. "Got done early today- oh fuck what happened?"

The goddes didn't really answer, just let out a pathetic whimper. Her wife knelt in front of her and carefully took one of her hands off the pillow. "Did he do something?" Pallas eventually asked.

Athena shook her head. "No…this just sort of happened."

"Ok." Pallas said. "Can I do anything for you?"

"Get mom please." Athena groaned. Her wife nodded and kissed her on the forehead before running out of the room to go get the queen.

Pallas was panicking. Something was wrong with her wife and she didn't know how to fix it. Hopefully Hera did, if she could find her, she'd been on this mountain for 2,000 years and she still had no idea where anything was.

After wandering for a while, she found Hera talking to Apollo about something that sounded important but she didn't care about that. "Hi guys you gotta come with me right now." She said, probably way too fast for them to understand, just based on the weird looks her in-laws gave her.

"Sorry dear, what's happening?" Hera asked.

Pallas took a deep breath. "Something's wrong with Athena." She said, slowly. "You need to come with me right fucking now…please."

That got the two of them moving because Hera ran out the door as soon as she finished talking and Apollo followed right after her with his medical bag. Pallas ran after them hoping to any being higher than her that that they could fix this

Athena wasn't sure how long Pallas had been gone, it felt like decades. The pain had gotten worse, on top of that it felt like she had been put in a vise and was slowly being squeezed to death. In response to the pressure, she had started squeezing the pillow she'd been holding. She was impressed with how it hadn't exploded yet, but with how things were going, it wasn't going to stay that way.

After a few minutes of tears, gritted teeth and general agony, the pain mostly disappeared. If she knew more about medicine she would probably be worried, but right now she was just grateful that the pain was gone.

Then she looked down.

Between her legs was a giant golden egg. Just as Athena was processing this, her wife burst into the room.

"Honey! I got help!" Pallas exclaimed. Then she looked at the floor and saw the egg. "Uh…what- what is?" She didn't say anything else and just sat on the floor next to her wife, pulling her into her arms.

Apollo came in next and his eyes immediately widened. He stood there, confused for a moment before asking, "Did- did that…come out of you?”

Athena rolled her eyes. “No, brother, it just randomly teleported into my room, conveniently right between my legs.”

Her brother shut up and stood to the side while Hera finally walked in. She looked at the two women and egg on the floor. If she was shocked she didn't show it. "Phoebus, make sure your sister is alright while I inspect the egg." She instructed.

Apollo quickly started looking her over while asking several questions. Athena was only able to process every third one, she was way more focused on her mom and the egg. Thankfully, the inspections didn't take long and Hera sat in front of her step daughter and daughter in law.

"So, there is something alive in there." The god queen explained. "I don't know if you want to keep it, that's you two's choice."

And with that she left, leaving Athena and Pallas on the floor and Apollo awkwardly standing in the doorway.

"I'll be going now." He said. "Call if you need me."

The two were silent for a few minutes before Athena said. "What the fuck?"

Later that night, Athena was lying in bed, thinking about the events of the day. After the initial shock wore off she just felt confused. She wasn't about to abandon her child without having never met them, she had to be better than her father if she was going to be a good parent. But she also didn't want to drag her wife into anything that she didn't want. She loved Pallas, but she is willing to admit that the other woman wasn't the smartest sometimes, not to mention that she had some of her grandfather's anger.

Thankfully Pallas also had the uncanny ability to read her mind because she rolled over and wrapped her arms around her. "Thinking about something?"

Athena leaned into the touch. "Just about the egg."

"You want to keep it?" Pallas asked.

"Yes." She replied. "But we don't have to if you don't want-"

"Thea, I want to keep it too." Pallas interrupted.

Athena almost burst out laughing. It was this sort of spontaneity that made her love Pallas even more. They talked a little more about it and ended up in each other's arms, like they usually did.

Athena buried her face into her wife's shoulder. "So, we're really doing this?"

"Hell yeah we are, goddess." Pallas replied.

They were both quiet for a second before the goddess of wisdom realized something. "Oh Fates, we're going to be parents."

"Yeah I'm trying not to think about that right now." Pallas replied.
