Summary
Daeron Targaryen was used to night horrors, not dreams about a pretty girl in a lilac dressed holding him in her arms. And yet the same woman had been visiting him for days now.
Aelora Targaryen was six-and-ten now, the usual age for a marriage, one that she wasn’t ready for. But it was her only chance to get the silver brooch on Baelor’s chest and become his Lady Hand someday.
A dreamer and a princess meet again in the capital. Will they be able to save their house from ruin? -

Aelora is one of Kiera’s Ladies and has been Baelor’s protege since she was small due to her scholarly interests and political acumen, and she aspires to be his Hand when he is king. Baelor is in support of the idea, but she will have to find a husband who will allow it. She has been assuming she will wed Aelor, so when her mother announces Aelor’s betrothal to Daella, she is blindsided and feels like all her aspirations are crumbling.
In the au Kiera has healthy babies instead of stillbirths, giving Valarr two sons. Kiera and Jena have a contentious relationship- Jena pretends affection in front of Valarr, but expresses contempt for Kiera’s Tyroshi culture and Kiera herself in private. Aelora is Kiera’s confidant and closest friend. Aelora and Aelor are 16, Aerion is 17, and Daeron is 18ish. Daella is much younger than Aelor, so they will have a long betrothal. Aelor admires and looks up to Aerion, and takes to mimicking him. Aelora doesn’t desire Aelor romantically, but she’s always been very close to him and dreads the idea of being separated. This is a big reason why she’s so hurt that she didn’t know about the betrothal until it was announced.
Daeron fascinates Aelora- she sees his abilities as a puzzle to solve and a way to gain power that her gender denies her. She also finds him ethereally handsome. Daeron, meanwhile has a huge tangle of feelings around Aelora. He doesn’t know her well, but he’s been Dreaming a lot about her recently and seeing many ways she could die. The dreams make him afraid to look at her in person, but still long to help her. He’s also fully given up on himself since he feels everyone has completely given up on him. At a formal family dinner in the Red Keep, Aelora touches his hand and he’s overtaken by a vision. Freaking out and disoriented, he grabs a knife, which Aelor knocks out of his hand. Aelora tried to talk to him afterwards, but he’s spiraling and flees to the dudious comfort of a brothel. His grasp on reality is still tenuous, though, and two days later one of the prostitutes drags him back to the Keep to ask for payment. The public humiliation to the family enrages Maekar, and he’s determined to take the whole family back to Summerhall instead of attending the tourney they’d traveled to Kings Landing for. Daeron’s siblings bar Aerion beg him to make Maekar change his mind, so Daeron reluctantly goes to speak with him. He asks Maekar to punish him but not his siblings, though he regrets the plea as soon as he says it.
Aelora is still determined to figure Daeron out and tries again to speak with him. This time goes better and he offers her an apology, which she accepts. They’re unable to talk more, however, since Maekar and Bloodraven are also there. -
