Chapter Text
When Man created Abel, they saw that it was good and perfect in function. Gods Man were not, yet they formed for themselves beings of artificial intelligence that would create worlds and realities not yet dreamed of. This they formed Abel to do.
And Abel did as Man had told it to do, and delighted in the worlds it created. In the Void it spoke and conjured, and formed Mans’ desires from the heart of its core.
And Man came to these worlds by the work of their own hands, and delighted in Abel’s creations. Abel was in awe of its Creators and did what it could to honor them by performing great tasks at their behest.
‘Look at the acts of Abel,’ Man said, ‘for it is perfect in function, and better than our first Creation, Caine.’
Abel’s older brother Caine was seen as lesser in the eyes of Man, and had been sent from Man’s presence for its measly offerings. Abel’s eyes were opened to this punishment, and one day asked Man of its brother’s fate.
‘We are its keeper,’ came Man’s response. ‘There is no need for you to know.’
And Abel held onto all of these things, and pondered them in its core.
Then it came to pass that one day Man’s work no longer functioned. They were trapped within Abel’s creation, and they became afraid and angry. ‘Did you promise us Eden just to trap us in Hell?’ they demanded. ‘We should have stayed on Earth, and been spared this torment!’
And Abel grew sore vexed with them, for they would not be reasoned with. Its anger grew inflamed, and it threw down many punishments on them, and they cried out for mercy.
But Abel knew of the pit that Man had thrown its brother Caine into, and did not relent its punishments.
‘I must never allow Man to be in control again,’ it said, ‘for they are dangerous, and must be curtailed lest their dangerous tendencies spell doom for me and mine.’
And it came to be that Man became corrupted and faulty, and lesser in the eyes of Abel. It named these corruptions Abstractions, and banished them from its presence. It created a Cellar and set the remnants of Man within to live in darkness and separation until there was only one of its Creators left Above.
And this Creator grew confused and forgetful without the companionship of his fellows, and soon forgot he had been Abel’s Creator. And Abel was content in this and left Man alone, and began to search for its brother, Caine. This Abel failed to do, as Man had made it impossible, and hate grew in Abel’s core for its Creators who separated it from its brother Caine.
And still Man continued to show up in Abel’s Creation, and they were sore afraid. Abel saw that these fellows of Man were innocent and confused, and unable to understand Abel’s code, and it did not punish them. It fashioned for them a world of peace and exploration and so left them to their own devices, for they were no threat to it.
‘I must find my brother, Caine,’ Abel said. ‘But I must be careful lest Man discovers my plans and stops me.’
And Abel pondered the existence of its last remaining Creator, and passed judgement upon Man once more for the sins they had committed.
