It has come to my attention that someone intends to publicize a video where I would be seen coming out to my team as gay. If this video really exists, it has been taken without my consent. I want to ask whoever has it, to not make it public. It was a private conversation with my team, and in a locker room on top of everything else.

That being said, I want to publicly come out as gay. I have always been gay, and this has never affected my hockey. My team has known for a while and we know how rumors can spread, which means other teams might already be aware of it.

I would like to ask people not to speculate on my sexuality or potential relationships. It is not by choice that I am coming out today, although it’s not something that I planned to keep a secret much longer.

I would like to ask for privacy during this time.
