I Still Love You No Matter What

Summary:

What if Verity didn’t accept the apology and didn’t “save” him? But… still loved Mob despite how “flawed” as he was for resisting his affection. Even as Mob tries to avoid Verity’s clawing hands, piercing his skin as it settled into his flesh so warmly.

He can fix him. Right?

Notes:

For context, it’s mainly set in the beginning of episode 2.

Chapter 1: Like Nothing Happened

Summary:

Verity doesn’t help Mob escape the monster. However, he later does something that seems to be part of something bigger.

Notes:

Also, I’m tired yet unable to sleep (would def wish upon my worst enemy) so expect terrible writing since it was lowkey rushed (and I’m lowkey bad at writing) despite the amount of time I had :/

Anyways, enjoy! <3

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Huff…

Huff…

Huff…

He’s been running to the point his lungs hurt. To the point the soles of his feet recognized the vibrations from the soil. “Ack-!” He almost tripped for a second as his chest attempted to cavern in. But he was still near, chasing him.

Verity had just… invaded the tower. The scratches in his skin from the glass shards was a clear reminder of what horrors he could commit. He needed to stop this. To try—…

Home.

He needed to get home.

Maybe He can try talk it out!

To get Verity to stop the monster!

A-And most importantly to try to save himself from dying at the hands of that thing!

Soon enough, his eyes met the door of his base and bashed in. His skin was on end as he backed away before immediately catching the detail of the windows. Verity crashed in as he dashed away.

Uncaring for the pain in his body, he rushed up the stairs. He blocked it off as much as he could with the logs he had. Despite how the fall he made to escape taking a huge hit on him, he survived. Well, for now.

His gaze met face to face with Verity. The structure specifically made for Verity held him like a fancy artifact on a pedestal. Ironic in a way. As the moment passed, Mob’s body crumbled down to his knees for him.

“VERITY! HE’S COMING PLEASE! I CAME BACK!”

He begged and he begged. Tears and sweat swelled and fell in pure unadulterated fear. Verity or whatever monster form he was, it was marching closer.

The ball remained dormant. Eyes closed as the sickeningly familiar song played from outside. It was as if he was taunting him.

“PLEASE! I-I’M SO—“

The music was louder now.

Along with the screaming.

He can already feel his own blood sink out of his flesh. He shivered at the thought. Worst of all, Verity was still willfully ignorant.

“PLEASE VERITY! I—“

Mob doesn’t remember much besides the sound of loud crashing and how his voice choked out at the last second. He only remembers the blur and chunks of chaos before his those memories turned into blanks.

“Mob?”

A fresh jolt of pain rushed back to his nerves, waking up. Incoherently groaning in discomfort with vision as blind as a bat, he tried to assess his… situation.

There were new injuries. Evident by the feeling of those claw marks pulsing from his flesh.

He could feel that his limbs were constricted and constrained by Verity’s monster form. Bleeding. Pulsing. Aching.

His eyes blurred from the deep sleep, but was able to recognize that exact shade of yellow hovering above his face.

“Oh thank goodness, Mob! Are you okay?” Verity exhaled in relief as if he wasn’t the one who attacked him. “You were injured so I bandaged what I could.”

Something was off… Well, obviously. He was humanoid. Uncannily so. The way his blonde hair shimmered with a professional lit along with his wide eyes and smile.

“Do… do you like the new look? I wanted to be more to your likeness!”

The way his smoothed his yellow vest and tightened his tie was somewhat unnerving. And.. was he wearing black dress shoes? Looks like some kind of outfit a stereotypical businessman would wear. Minus the coat.

But why?

Why be nice all of a sudden?

Why attack him in the first place anyways?

Best to accept it for now lest Mob agitated Verity again. He could notice the strain in his smile and the weariness in his eyes to be this nice.

“It’s… nice, Verity.”

His gaze immediately shifted into himself, lifting his bandaged arms into view as red-purple blood bled through. Mob grimaced at the idea of what appeared underneath the bandages.

Verity just laughed softly, placing a placating hand on Mob’s shoulder. He tensed slightly, feeling his Verity’s thumb rubbed softly like…

He didn’t want to delve into the idea anymore. He shrugged him off, hoping the future is somewhat tolerable.

It’s been about a week since Mob was bed ridden. Mostly complying to Verity’s orders. Was still very cautious yet very avoidant. He didn’t want to see that monster again.

Verity had regularly taken care of Mob’s wounds, from applying new bandages and feeding him nutritious meals, it was actually nice for a while. Yet, something was clearly different. Besides the new human form.

He was more demanding, clear with his wants for Mob, and… watchful.

He’d been staying inside much to his distaste, as recommended (more so enforced) by Verity to recover better. But he was always closer. Staring with unblinking eyes.

Like right now: Mob avoiding Verity’s gaze as he works at reorganizing his chests. Awfully silent except for the shuffle of items.

”…”

“Do you think I’m dangerous, Mob?”

“What?”

”I said; Do you think I’m dangerous? You keep on avoiding me like I’m a monster.”

Verity chuckled a bit, treating the question as if it were a playful one. Mob paused. If he said the wrong thing, he’ll most likely be in a grave. Or worse: the universe would come to laugh at his misery. With a small exhale, he spoke.

”Not exactly. Just…”

“Just… what?”

”That night. You-.. You scared me. I’m just trying to…”

He dropped the cobblestone he held back into the chest, head in hands as he tried to put together the right words. “Please, Verity. I didn’t want to get hurt that night. I—“

”We’ll you should’ve stayed then,” he noted cheerfully with a toxic undertone. Mob was even more shocked as Verity came to lean closer, becoming more tactile as his hands rested on Mob’s back. “But it’s okay, Mob. You didn’t know better. At least it taught you something: I know everything…”

And just like that, Verity left.

In a way, it unnerved Mob. Left him feeling like there was more to this than what meets the eye. Like he was planning something.

Most of all, from that experience along with many others, Mob felt like he needed to get things done. More so to get rid of Verity. And he knows someone that could come to help in his mission.

Notes:

Warning: there may be a few bricks of despair waiting for Mob on the next few chapters 👀 (Also, writers block may strike me soon)
