    Summary

    War unexpectedly strikes Tjemehu—Yugi’s home. It lasts only two days, but the damage is severe. Yugi is one of only six survivors, all of which become prisoners of war.

    Now an enslaved launderer at the Pharaoh’s palace, Yugi manages to keep going. He learns the language of those that have taken everything from him and he integrates well enough into his new life. But below the surface, his resentment only festers with time, and he grows bitter.

    Two years pass without incident but Yugi’s life is once again thrown in disarray when the Pharaoh apparently kills his personal slave, only for Yugi to be ordered to take up the position next.
