Summary
Upon being sent to live with her birth mother after her father’s death, the 15 year old Elleanor has to confront her bad manners for the first time in her life. Her mother, a quiet and odd fat woman with too many secrets, clearly doesn’t know how to raise her but she does know food and pleasure, and so she assigns her a heavily demanding task to her daughter: she must grow as large as mother and learn how to put herself in mother’s shoes, or else she gets no room to complain. And then–!! Oh well, the girl gets weird feelings about it, obviously.
