"See you soon!"

Summary:

In which, Eggchan has inevitably lost his ability to see due to a curse.

And Wemmbu is more than willing to joke about it.

Work Text:

Wemmbu was walking towards his and his bestfriend Eggchan's shared base, Gambit twirling in his right hand like it was lightweight and made of cardboad. He was humming some melody, completely off-key, but entertaining enough to pass time without going crazy.

The sun is setting, painting the sky in that yellow-pink gradient. The purple-haired contemplated if it's worth to screenshot it and show it to Egg later, then it hit him.

Egg can't see anymore.

And, well, Wemmbu's not a demon for nothing. He started giggling about it once he remembered. Truly, evil.

You see, Eggchan's a seraphim. A fallen one, specifically. And as if out of spite, the almighty creatures from above cursed him. The reason? Befriending a demon, receiving "cursed" energy from him and practically renouncing from the heavenly laws.

Happily for our winged one, Wemmbu didn't deem him as useless and haven't thrown him out in the wild to die after finding out about his sight loss.

Instead, he found it funny.

Eggchan sometimes wonders if the first option would be better than living through the demon's endless puns and jokes. Probably not, but still. He hates his bestfriend from time to time.

With that thought, Wemmbu took out his communicator and photographed the view, grinning. He absolutely enjoys this. He had already thought of at least a ten ways to make his best friend furious with that single photo.

Egg's sitting in the kitchen, listening to an audiobook through his communicator. It was a detective book that he didn't really pay attention to. More like a distraction; a way to keep himself busy while Wemmbu's out. Judging by how birds outside were silent and the wind started picking up through the opened window, the white-haired assumed it was evening.

His friend should've come back by now. Where's he?

The door had clicked closed. Ah, here he is!

"Hey," Egg greeted, turning his head to the kitchen entrance.

"Hey Egg," something in the demon's tone made the seraphim stiff.

"How was the material gathering?" the guy asks, almost absentmindedly, not expecting any coherent answer.

"Oooh, you won't believe what I saw," there it is. Wemmbu found a perfect opportunity to joke.

"What is it?"

"Look! Bro, tell me that view is majestic!" you could hear how badly the purple-haired tries not to burst out laughing. Eggchan didn't appreciate the joke and made a face of a disappointed parent.

Wemmbu couldn't hold it in any longer.

"Bro- don't look at me like that! It's just too funny-"

The corners of seraphim's mouth twitch upwards at the sound of his friend laughing. You know, the kind of laughing that makes you want to laugh too?

"See? You're laughing too!" of course, the other noticed.

"Bro, stop!" Egg forced down the giggle that had tried to escape, but he stopped hiding his smile.

"Ha.. Well, aside from that! I actually got pancakes recipe from some random player."

"I'm terrified to know what's in it."

"I don't even know how to feel about it myself, it has..." Wemmbu took his time reading the recipe he took out from his inventory. "Stripped birch logs?

"I feel sorry for anyone who has to eat that dude's cooking..."

"How do you even put logs into pancakes?"

"Why are you asking me?"

"It's a rhetorical question! You don't need to answer that," the purple-haired rolled his eyes, sighing dramatically.

"Woah, you know that word?"

"Excuse me?"

"Well, you look illiterate," Egg informs his friend.

"Bold of you to assume you know how I look," the other shot back.

"Bro, it's only been a month, I haven't forgotten how you look! I mean- Unless you've decided you don't like purple anymore and dyed your hair in toxic green?" Egg huffs. He would be lying if he said he didn't like that kind of banter.

"Wh- Why it has to be toxic green? What did Boosfer do to you? And- And what if I decided to be a redhead?"

"I'd be horrified."

"What do you have against redheads?" Wemmbu scoffed.

" Nothing. I just think red is not your color."

"As if you'd see it."

"Bro."

Wemmbu smiles, more to himself than to his friend, but the other understood his silence and smiled in return. That's what you call a true soulmate!

The purple-haired turns to the kitchen counter.

"So, what do you think about pancakes for dinner?" he asks.

"Please don't."

"I- I won't use that recipe! Am I that stupid in your eyes?"

"I just know you too well. You're someone who'd actually try it and then say "it's in the name of science!" "

"Well.. now that you mention it..." the guy moved back to the table and picked up the paper with that recipe.

"No."

"You won't even notice."

"I will notice the taste of logs?"

"How do you know what logs taste like?"

"Definitely nothing like pancakes," and with that, Egg's stomach growls.

Silence stretched between the two. Wemmbu has this crooked smile on his face that Egg fails to notice, I wonder why, and Egg's headwings flutter to hide his face out of embarassment.

But instead of making another snarky remark, the demon goes to make normal pancakes with a smirk.

All the jokes aside, Wemmbu does care for his friend. And it sucks that he had gotten himself in that predicament just to stay with Wemmbu. The purple-haired is endlessly grateful for a friend like Egg. It's amusing how The Seraphim Himself doesn't care if it's a sin to be a demon's friend or how he turned down all the principles just for Wemmbu. That tickles his ego just the right way.

Setting the pancakes on the table, Wemmbu sits down beside his friend. Egg looks at the food like it personally offended him.

"Bro I did not add stripped birch logs. I promise," the purple-haired laughs as he got weakly hit on the shoulder in response.

After eating somewhat peacefully, the duo had fell into their usual routine. Wemmbu was rambling about his adventures today while lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling. His friend was on the opposite side of the room, listening attentively. Or sleeping. It's hard to tell without lights on. Either way, the demon continued on talking until sleep started taking over, fogging his mind.

Wemmbu woke up first, as he expected. The guy quietly walked out of their bedroom and started cleaning. He wouldn't tell you what demon possessed him to do that, but it wasn't himself for sure. The Wemmbu that we know doesn't clean the house the second after waking up.

Well, in his defense, Egg wouldn't really see the mess? What if he'll stumble on some used empty can and gets hurt? You'll never know! It wouldn't hurt to be careful. But of course, the demon won't utter even a word about that.

The last place that was left untouched by Wemmbu is the library, that Egg specifically asked to build in under their house, like a basement. The purple-haired doesn't go there that often, only for books of enchanting he leaves there. But it's his best friend's little adobe, so..

He slowly descends on the staircase down to said library. It's honestly too big for one person to be using it, but even then, every bookshelf in there is stacked with books. Wemmbu distantly wonders if Eggchan have ever read even a half of them.

A few of the books here and there fell out of their place, now laying on the floor without any purpose. They probably were knocked off by bats, since they didn't exactly made it bat-proof. The only light sourse that was used frequently was a lamp over the table right in the middle. It wasn't enough to light the whole place. So, bringing a few torches with him, Wemmbu got ready to get swarmed by bats. He picked up Egg's sword that laid flat against the wall of the staircase to get rid of them, if there's any.

So, he started placing torches.

"It feels like I'm playing a whole ass horror game just to pick up some books," the purple-haired mumbles. Now that the whole place was lit, said bats woke up and started flying around, going heavy against the disturbance. Thankfully, not even one bat left the library as the demon worked through killing them.

There definitely was something domestic in the way Wemmbu was going through all these complications just because. There really is no reason for him to clean library, of all places. Egg haven't been here in a whole month. He doesn't visit this room. But I guess he needs to busy himself with something.

One of the last books was placed on its assigned shelf, and a voice echoed through the walls.

"Wemmbu?" the seraphim called out, standing just mere centimeters from the staircase. He definitely knows this, considering one of his legs idly swings right at the first stairstep. Seeing this, the demon almost dropped the book in his hand as he sprinted to his friend.

"Dude! Watch where you're going," he hissed, "What if you fell?"

"Bro."

"O- that one wasn't intended," the purple-haired admitted, only now realizing what he had said. He giggles at the angry puff his friend's headwings show.

"I'm not that stupid, come on!" the white-haired cries, "I know we have a whole ass staircase down here?!"

"Well, what if you forgot," the other grins.

"Just say you hate me."

"Well, that would be incorrect." Wemmbu informs, leading his friend away from the danger he calls a staircase.

"I terrified to think what you did in the library," Eggchan says, staring ahead of himself.

"What's that supposed to mean?" the demon lets go of his friend's shoulders once they made their way into the kitchen. The seraphim found his way to the couch, sitting down before speaking again.

"You stopped spatting nonsense every two seconds. You're evolving."

"Wha- oh, you-" Wemmbu closed his mouth before he said something horrifying that would've changed Eggchan's whole view of him. But to be fair, they've been together since day one, so..

Their breakfast- though, I wouldn't call it that, considering it was just tea and cookies, went pretty well. Egg shared a dream he had about fishing, and Wemmbu commented, occasionally getting completely off-track and starting a rant on a whole other topic.

Then, Wemmbu abruptly stood up, shutting up.

"Wemmbu?" Egg looked at him questioningly.

"Bro, I forgot something."

"Huh?"

The demon started rummaging through his ender chest, trying to remember what's missing. The white-haired was forced to just sit there and listen to the sound of items clanking against eachother.

"Bro," the purple-haired started, catching his friend's attention, "I'm out of pearls."

"Didn't you buy a whole shulkerbox last week?" Egg looks at him, puzzled.

"Well- that was last week!" he looks away.

That doesn't make any sense. How can you burn through 432 pearls in a week? Four hundred thirty two. Not just thirty two. It was a full shulker of pearls. Unless Wemmbu was using them very carelessly, there's no way for him to be out already.

"I feel like you're using it as an excuse to leave me alone."

"What? No! I would never!" Wemmbu gasps, whipping his head in the direction of his friend so fast it's a miracle his head didn't rip off from his body.

"Uh-huh."

"Bro, I promise you it's not like that," the purple-haired started excusing, "y'know, maybe someone stole that shulkerbox in the heat of a fight.. And I haven't noticed until now..."

"Then you're a dumbass," the other concluded, crossing his arms.

"Hey! You're rude."

"So you're gonna go buy enderpearls?" he ignores his friend's remark.

"Uh. Yeah!"

Wemmbu stood up, gathering up his things and moving to the exit.

"How long will you be gone for?" the seraphim asks, standing up to go after his friend.

"Hmm, maybe two to three hours. I'll try to not get sidetracked."

"Okay."

The demon stood in the middle of the hallway, thinking.

"We can go fishing after," he says. A stupid grin appears on his face once Egg's attention was on him. The white-haired nodded, smiling lightly.

"Okay, I'll be going now," Wemmbu declared, stepping out of the house. He looked over his shoulder one last time, looking at his friend, standing not too far away from the doorstep and looking at particularly nothing. "See you soon!" were the demon's last words, before he equipped his elytra and flew off.

"Oh you've gotta be kidding me!" the Seraphim turned to the sound of fireworks launching, huffing out a laugh of disbelief.

Well, at least he'll go fishing with Wemmbu after the other comes back, right?

Right?
