Work Text:
Hank and Connor had to investigate a crime scene in a museum.
The entrance was secured with tape, and the staff– androids included— were evacuated just moments before.
It was nothing unusual, or particularly exciting, but the android was a bit too energetic about it regardless.
They made their way through the gigantic museum. Every exhibit was thoroughly catalogued and protected behind glass, carefully guarded against curious hands. The building itself was in spotless condition, with its white floors and high ceilings.
They passed a particularly interesting vitrine. Connor took a small step back, and approached it carefully, as if he'd spotted some evidence.
His LED was shining bright blue, and his face remained perfectly neutral.
Hank walked several more steps before realizing that a certain andoird was not following him. So, the human turned around. He saw the display, illuminated by a bright white light, and Connor leaning over it.
The android's optical sensors seemed to be focused on the artifact. The LED on his temple brightened to a new shade of blue that had not yet been discovered for androids.
Oh hell no.
As soon as the lieutenant realised what was going on, he raised his finger.
"Connor. NO."
Statistically speaking, around 71% of Hank's "Connor, NO" involved Connor attempting to taste evidence.
And then the other 28% were usually followed by—"Why the fuck did you do that after I told you not to."
This time it meant something slightly different, because there was no blood or any other substances around. As far as Connor was concerned anyway.
He gently placed a hand against the glass.
"I have to take them out to determine—"
"No you fucking don't." Hank grabbed Connor by the collar and pushed the android to walk forward. "Let's go, or I'll send you back to wait in the goddamn car."
Connor's LED flashed red.
"...As you wish."
It returned to blue.
As they walked further along, the android watched every subsequent vitrine. They all had coins stored in them, without any exception. He counted every single one of them.
There were 2018.
Perhaps he could take a closer look at the ones in the gift shop. And determine their weight then.
...only because that was necessary for their investigation, of course.
A few days later Hank would have actually preferred filling out reports to this.
"...Connor what the fuck."
The android just shrugged. Pah—shrugged. He would have fooled anyone else, but not Hank. Hank could see right through him. ...Well, at Connor's LED, anyway, and it was red.
There was a huge stack of coins scattered across Hank's desk. Those were just the ones Hank had managed to get out of Connor's pockets. Who knows how many that kid had hidden everywhere else.
Hank had caught Connor trying to perform tricks with a dozen of them at the same time. ...Who even comes up with that sort of shit?
Connor squinted at Hank. "You encouraged me to express myself."
"So, collecting coins like some computer game character and threatening everyone who tries to take them away is expressing yourself? Fucking Mario." Hank sighed, tiredly. "Don't tell me you are gonna start jumping on turtles next."
Hank smirked.
Connor shook his head.
"I have no intention of harming turtles," he said eyeing the lieutenant suspiciously while his LED circled yellow. "You frequently express disagreement through physical actions—"
Hank raised his finger, and pointed it at Connor in a warning. "No I don't! Hey, don't try to change the topic!"
"...You do."
"No."
"Yes."
"Shut it."
"Very well then."
Connor said. His LED switching to yellow.
The two stood in silence for a while. Just when Hank thought that the crisis was averted—
"May I have them back?" the android asked innocently.
Hank gritted his teeth.
"Wh– You know what? Fine. I don't fucking care. Just don't steal any more. Understood?"
Connor's LED flashed yellow.
He was certain that he had not stolen them.
He had merely acquired one. The others had been bought... or found.
"...Understood."
"Good." Hank nodded.
"Great." Connor added.
Hank sighed, and glanced at the pile of coins once more.
He furrowed his brows.
The coin dropped to the ground, and rolled away. Hank cursed under his breath.
"You are doing great. It may require some more practice for it not to drop as frequently." Connor's LED shone bright blue.
"Yeah yeah. Whatever. You make it look so easy."
Hank sighed, purposely not looking at the android–just in case Connor had a grin on his face.
Connor and his frickin' coins.
Then he went to retrieve the coin, and probably try again. Maybe.
