Work Text:

Please don't go, please don't go. I love you so, I love you so.

It was time.

Today, on March 15th, Red, Green, and Blue had finally received their starter Pokémon. That meant they were leaving you.

You watched their joyful faces as they talked and laughed together, completely unaware. Unaware they were being watched. Unaware of what you were thinking. Unaware of the storm brewing inside you.

It made your heart twist.

Please don't go, please don't go. I love you so, I love you so.

You couldn't stand it. You couldn't stand this feeling. You didn't understand why your brain worked this way. Why the thought of them leaving made you feel like the world was ending.

You wanted it to stop.

You wanted them to stay.

With you. Forever.

But that just wasn't possible, was it?

You stared. You envied. You hoped. You resented. More than anything, you wanted them to stay.

You wanted him to stay.

You couldn't stand him.

Yet you loved him.

That stupidly cute face of his. Those burning, determined red eyes. His ridiculous dimples.

They tugged at your heart in ways you hated.
You knew you could never have him all to yourself.

But you still needed him.

Your heart needed him. Your mind needed him. Without him... who would you have left?

They began to leave. You followed them. Out the door. Onto Route 1. Into the forest.

It was just you and Red now.

He turned to face you, his expression hidden beneath the shadows of the leaves. Sunlight filtered through them, forming a faint ring of light around the two of you, isolating you.

Your bubblegum-pink hair whipped in the wind.

Even the sky looked overcast, sharing your grief.

You stared him down. He stared right back.

It was just you and him, alone.

The thought made your heart leap. You wanted nothing more than for this moment to last forever.

He tilted his head, silently questioning your unusual silence. His hands moved vividly, signing something to you.

You didn't have the strength to understand him anymore. He had to be yours.

You took a step forward.

He didn't move.

Another step.

Still, he stood there, awkwardly meeting your stare.

His fiery red eyes. Your weary crimson ones.

You closed the distance between you. You forced one of his hands into yours and cupped his jaw with the other, your fingers trembling against his skin.

"Please don't go. I'll eat you whole. I love you so."

His eyes widened. Fear spread across his face , crawling up from his chest. He was afraid of you. That wasn't what you wanted. You never wanted him to fear you.

You just wanted him to stay.

"Please don't go. I'll eat you whole. I love you so."

Tears welled in his eyes. Your grip tightened without realizing. His chest rose and fell in panicked breaths. Why couldn't he understand? Why couldn't he just accept your love? Why was he trying to leave you?

"Please don't go. I'll eat you whole. I love you so."

He struggled against you. He pushed. He twisted. He tried to wrench his hand free.

Your fingers only tightened around him. You must have looked manic. Your face shifted closer until your breaths mingled.

"Please don't go. I'll eat you whole. I love you so."

Your crazed crimson eyes searched his. His reddened eyes stared back through tears. He was hiccuping now. Even the newly captured Pikachu had stiffened, fur standing on end.

You laughed. A quiet, shaky laugh. Then you cried. Then you laughed again.

You didn't know why.

All you knew was that you couldn't lose him. You couldn't survive losing him. So you pressed your lips against his, trapping him in a desperate kiss he couldn't escape.

He was yours. He needed to understand that.

You were terrified of being abandoned.

He knew that. And he was leaving anyway.

He had to be yours.
Yours.
Yours alone.

You didn't know what you would do if he ever tried to leave you again.
