Sunshine

Summary:

Damian smirked. “Don’t tell me that you only defend me for the promise of sex.”

Damian had meant for it to be teasing, but Jon’s features suddenly softened. His violet eyes were intense, completely locked in on Damian.

“I’ll always defend you, Dami.”

Notes:

Alrighty.

First, so sorry for any mistakes, I wrote this in literally a day. Also, sorry if any of the Justice League is ooc, I mainly only read Batman comics and it’s been a while since I read one with any of them in it. Also also, I know there’s more members of the JL than the ones I included, but I just didn’t feel like using them all.

Second, Jon and Damian are both aged up in this. No specific ages are mentioned, but they’re both well into adulthood.

Lastly, I made Jon be Tomorrow Man in this and Damian fill in for Batman because I keep seeing posts abt Tomorrow Man Jon dating Knightfight Batman Damian and I just really like the idea of it. I don’t really care if it makes sense or not. I literally didn’t include anything from the Knightfight universe in this or anything from the comics where Jon becomes Tomorrow Man, it is literally all for the aesthetic.

Enjoy!

Work Text:

The Justice League was comprised of what were, in Damian’s opinion, some of the most insufferable people on the face of the planet.

He truly did not know how his father did it. Every single step of Damian’s plan- the plan he’d spent weeks meticulously creating- was met with questioning or confusion or snide remarks.

Damian’s hand itched for the sword at his side. He wouldn’t actually do anything to any of them, but he would like to take his frustration out on something. If it intimidated these idiots into shutting up, then that was just a bonus.

Jon reached over and pulled at Damian’s sleeve gently, giving him a knowing look. Of course Jon could tell what he was thinking. Damian sighed and dropped his hand from the hilt of his sword.

The fact that Jon was here was truly Damian’s only saving grace. It was pure chance that both their fathers were off-world at the moment, and Damian thanked his lucky stars for it. Filling in as Batman was always easier with Jon by his side.

“As I was saying,” Damian continued his earlier train of thought, attempting to redirect focus back to their upcoming mission. “Once we get to the compound, we will split up into teams-”

“I know who I want on my team.” Green Arrow interrupted, winking at Black Canary.

“I will be deciding the teams.” Damian said.

It was maybe a bit hypocritical, considering that he had put himself and Jon on the same team. However, that had nothing to do his and Jon’s relationship, they just worked well together. Besides, he wasn’t as easily distractible as Queen.

Damian’s eyes flicked over to Jon, his mind flashing back to what the two of them had been doing minutes before everyone arrived at the meeting. Alright, so maybe he was somewhat distractible. It wasn’t his fault that Jon looked so good in his Tomorrow Man suit.

Queen stuck his tongue out, as though he were a toddler. “I didn’t think it was possible, but you’re somehow even more of a buzzkill than your dad.”

“Can we finish this up already?” Flash whined, bouncing his leg so fast that it was nothing more than a blur. “We’ve been here for hours.”

Damian wanted to scream. They would’ve been done twenty minutes ago if everyone didn’t keep interrupting him.

“We have only been here for an hour.” Wonder Woman pointed out. She was truly the only competent person on this team.

“Feels longer.” Flash mumbled.

Damian ignored him, proceeding with his plan. “After we split into teams, which have been predetermined, each group will work on taking down a different aspect of their operation.”

“The first team will compromise of myself, Tomorrow Man, and Green Arrow.” Damian continued, ignoring Green Arrow’s eye roll. “The three of us will take care of-”

“Seriously?” Queen interrupted, again. “You and me on a team together?”

Damian actually did agree with the sentiment. He didn’t want to work with Green Arrow anymore than he wanted to work with Damian, it would be a miracle if they didn’t kill each other by the end of the night.

Unfortunately, part of the compound was going to be used to host a charity gala that night, likely as a cover for something more nefarious. Damian and Green Arrow were the only two members whose civilian identities would get them an invite. He was hoping that Jon would be able to get in with his journalist badge, but that wasn’t guaranteed. If all else failed, Jon would be watching from the skies in case they needed backup.

“It is necessary.” Damian explained. “You and I will be able to use our civilian identities to get into the gala being hosted at the compound that night. We can give the rest of the team access from there without raising any alarms.”

Green Arrow rolled his eyes. “Please, as if you won’t run off to do your own thing the first chance you get.”

Damian could admit that, in the past, he hadn’t done well with teams. However, he’d grown a lot since then. He only separated himself during missions if he felt it was absolutely necessary. He didn’t appreciate being treated like he was still a child.

“I wouldn’t compromise the mission like that.”

“Sure, you won’t.” Green Arrow scoffed. “Just like you won’t behead anyone who looks at you wrong.”

“Enough!” Jon stood up and slammed his hands down on to the table hard enough to make it shake. His eyes glowed red through his mask. “I’m sick and tired of you treating Damian like he’s untrustworthy.”

“Come on, man.” Flash interjected. “Ollie was just joking.”

“No, he wasn’t.” Jon said. “And it wasn’t funny. Damian has proved himself over and over again. If you can’t get over his upbringing, then that’s on you, not him.”

Damian felt himself flush slightly at Jon’s protectiveness, and was glad the cowl mostly covered it. It was rare to see him like this. Not that Jon didn’t have a temper- he did, Damian would know- however, it only reared its head under certain circumstances. Damian loved when that happened, he loved seeing a side of Jon that was not usually on display. He loved every part of Jon.

He loved Jon. Full stop.

Damian could’ve told Green Arrow off himself just as easily, sure, but it was nice to know that he didn’t have to. It still felt a bit unnatural, after so many years of being taught not to trust. Mostly, though, it was reassuring, knowing that he could trust Jon implicitly. That Jon would stand up to the goddamn Justice League for him without a moment’s hesitation.

Green Arrow raised his hands in a placating gesture. “Jeez, no need to overreact, I’ll tone it down.”

“I’m overreacting?” Jon repeated slowly. Damian recognized that tone of voice, and it was a dangerous one. “What would you do if someone insulted Dinah?”

Queen tilted his head, clearly confused. “Dinah’s my wife.”

“And Damian’s my husband.”

The entire room went silent. Everyone looked back and forth between Jon and Damian with slack jaws and wide eyes. Green Arrow had become considerably pale, likely realizing the possible consequences of a Kryptonian’s anger.

Jon and Damian’s relationship wasn’t exactly a secret, their friends and families had known for years. However, it wasn’t something that they advertised either. Superhero gossip traveled to supervillain circles far too easily, and Damian was not willing to have himself or Jon be used against each other because of their relationship.

“The two of you?” Flash finally broke the silence, because of course he did. Damn speedsters and their ADHD. “How- what? Since when?”

“We have been dating for six years, married for three.” Damian stated.

“Well, congratulations to you two.” Wonder Woman said, with a nod to both of them and a small smile. “Now, can we finish this meeting sometime today?”

“You expect us to focus on the meeting after hearing that?” Flash asked, waving his arms around in the air like a lunatic.

Wonder Woman shot him a look that could silence the gods. “Yes, I do.”

Flash wasted no time snapping his mouth shut. Damian couldn’t blame him, even he would be wary of going against Wonder Woman.

“Go ahead, Dames.” Jon gave him an encouraging smile as he took his seat. “There won’t be any more interruptions.”

Jon gave Green Arrow a pointed look. Green Arrow nodded in agreement, he still hadn’t regained his color. His fixed his eyes on Damian, turning his entire body towards him as if to prove he was paying attention.

“Thank you, beloved.” Damian smiled at Jon, taking the other man’s hand in his own. No one said a word about it. “Now, as for the other teams…”

…

Once they were home, Damian barely gave Jon enough time to take off his mask- and for himself to take off his own cowl- before he pounced on him.

He wrapped his arms around Jon’s neck and pulled him down into a kiss. Jon was quick to reciprocate, his hands going to Damian’s waist and hips and ass and anywhere else he could reach. It didn’t take long for him to hook his hands under Damian’s thighs and lift him up. Damian wrapped his legs around Jon’s waist in return.

Jon pulled away a bit, completely breathless. “I’m going to start telling off members of the Justice League for you more often if this is how you react afterwards.”

Damian smirked. “Don’t tell me that you only defend me for the promise of sex.”

Damian had meant for it to be teasing, but Jon’s features suddenly softened. His violet eyes were intense, completely locked in on Damian.

“I’ll always defend you, Dami.”

There was a time when Damian would’ve feared that look, with such emotion behind it. He would’ve avoided Jon’s gaze, for fear of being burned, but now, he only felt warmth.

Damian cupped Jon’s face in his hands and pressed a hard kiss to his lips. Jon was so sweet and earnest and Damian was so in love with him.

“I love you.” Damian whispered against Jon’s mouth.

Jon’s face broke into a blinding smile. It was amazing how Jon still got so giddy hearing those words, even after all these years.

He kissed Damian again, and again, and again. Jon kissed his cheeks and his mouth and his neck. He had begun walking them backwards somewhere along the way, only stopping when Damian’s back hit the wall.

“I love you so so much, Damian.”

God, Damian would go to the ends of the Earth for Jonathan Kent. He loved him to pieces, truly.

His sunshine.

Notes:

Hope you liked it!

There were a few paragraphs in here at one point explaining more about how Damian was only covering for Batman because absolutely no one else could do it, and that he was now a doctor that only did superhero stuff when absolutely necessary. However, it felt very shoehorned in and exposity no matter where I put it, so I just took it out.

Also, you have no idea how many times I described Jon’s facial expressions, only to remember that the Tomorrow Man suit has a full face mask so no one would be able to see his expressions. Although, I do think that Damian would just know what expressions he was making at this point, after so many years of knowing each other.

Last note- I purposefully made Damian less reserved and more open with his emotions in this, even though I know it’s a little ooc. I do think that Damian is someone who feels emotions deeply, he just tries very hard not to. However, the Damian in this fic is an adult, not a teenager still figuring himself out. I think he would work on himself, not stay emotionally repressed his whole life like Bruce. I also would hope that, even if he were still a bit repressed, he would be able to acknowledge and express his love towards his literal husband.

Anyways, thanks for reading!
