Flower Shop

Summary:

Kris goes home after dropping Suzie off.

Chapter 5 spoilers.

Work Text:

Kris knows something is coming. Something bad. They don’t want it to. They just want to be home again but the home they long for doesn’t exist.

At first they are confused when Suzie doesn’t enter her apartment building. She claims they know what she meant but she didn’t. They just, walk her around until they get to the school. Then they realize.

After dropping Suzie off at the school, at home, they head back to their dad’s flower shop.

The stop as they get to the doors. Just standing there, staring for a moment, before quietly letting themselves in through the back.

Things were simpler when they younger. Before that stupid prank.

Before Dess, disappeared.

Before Kris got cursed.

Before Noelle got blessed.

Before Asriel moved on.

Kris remembers that night. Not actively but if they try. The terror in Dess’ eyes. The way Noelle sobbed. The anger in Asriel’s voice.

When they sleep. It haunts them just as with the dark. Kris no longer likes the dark. Too many horrors hide within it. Too often do they see it’s face.

The soul is quiet within them. A brief reprieve. Its been more active lately.

They know they should go home. They know Toriel is probably worrying. Or maybe not.

She’s stopped worrying as much since Kris got a friend. Even more since she started hanging out with Sans.

Instead they pull Asgore’s mattress into the center of the room. In between the displayed flowers. Each flower sitting atop a podium light. The spot where yellow’s vase use to be is shining brighter than the rest no longer hindered. Lighting the cluttered messy space softly.

They could make another fountain.

Go back to the flowers.

It would be different. They have no way of knowing how. There wouldn’t be an Asgore for the flowers to adore. Would they shine that love on Kris instead?

They wish flowery was here.

Which is crazy, cause they hated him at first. Wanted him gone. To stay away from their father. To leave things be.

He would comfort them. Like family would.

Like Asgore would? But he was never really present. Absent.

Like Asriel would? But he was distant after the prank. Resentful.

Like Mom would? But her love was sickly sweet. Overpowering.

Somehow they think he’d know just what to say and do. That just, sounds like him. He’d comfort them. Not like an absent father, a golden older brother, or a helicopter mother. In a way that was just right and exactly what they needed.

Maybe that’s what the new dark world would be. Home. It would be cozy and each flower would have their own room. Kris would have their own room for once.

Not half a room with an empty bed glaring at them from across the way.

Would Seth read them stories?

Would Blue act out plays and poetry?

Would Green cook their comfort foods?

No matter what Kris thinks they would like it. It would be an amazing home.

They fall asleep in the middle of the flowers. In the cold, dim, flower shop. Feeling a little more at home. More then they have in years.
