Chapter Text
The screen of Avery's laptop lit a glow that illuminated Avery's face, his features highlighting his disbelief.
You Died! TheMostMayo was killed by d3rLord3. Respawn - Menu - Settings
The screen displayed, as if mocking him. Showing the void as a grey-yellow platform was seen far into the distance. At the side of the screen, he sees a message from d3r- Derek.
"Until next time, friend."
The words echoed in his mind, giving him a massive headache. The image of Derek's avatar was rather, engraved into his mind. For a moment, he wondered what the man would look like in real life.
Maybe he would have square glasses, dreads that was long but short enough to have framed his face perfectly. A red hoodie, like the red accents on his avatar. Maybe golden clasps on the end of his dreads, a dark green seeping through his roots. Piercings on his lips, and-
Wait. Isnt he just describing his best friend that had to leave college? Nevermind that, he needed to get a drink... And definitely piss.
As Avery stood up, he immediately stumbled on his feet, tripping over nothing but air. He remembers he cleaned his dormroom before trying to find Derek. His body cramped like hell, immediately feeling relieved when half of his bones made a cracking sound... Sounds horrid, I know. But just imagine cracking your fingers, thats what Avery felt like.
He went to the bathroom, after taking a nasty piss, he washed his face in the bathroom. Immediately seeing the bags under his eyes and his messy dreads. A cold layer of water splashed onto his face as he tried to wash his face, adding whatever skincare he had left.
He felt much better, exiting the bathroom and to the kitchen.
It was... Empty.
The clock sat above the fridge, it said it was 3am.
3...
Oh, right. The whole church thing, and the fact the whole thing was about 15 hours, counting the 2 hours in.
He quickly grabs a glass of water, chugs it down, and slams it onto the counter. He simply leaves it there before a 'meow' caught his attention.
A ball of fur was in his vision, a grey maine coon with wide green eyes, white covering some parts of her body.
Darling. No, hes not calling the cat darling, Darling is her actual name. She purrs, rubbing her body against Avery's leg. "Aww.." The man cooed, bringing Darling into his arms. "You're sleeping with me tonight." He says to no one in particular, walking off to his room. Flopping onto his bed whilst gently putting Darling on top said bed, curling up in bed with his cat on top of him. (Yes this can actually happen even if Avery's on his side.)
His vision blurs into darkness, his only thought before slumber was the man who sacrificed himself for him. 'The Jester and the Knight'.
Avery's vision blurs into place, being hit with a dim ceiling as light shone through his left window. Left.
Left.
He doesn't like that direction.
He gets up, rubbing his eyes, disoriented. Changed into something more of his style— preferrably a dark red and green hoodie. And put on his sunglasses, as he didn't like the sun that much. [Derek probably would've.]
He goes to the kitchen to get a drink, obviously. He sees the clock, it reads 7:19AM. Thank God he didn't have classes today.
There, he sees his roommate, 'Bianca'. She didn't like to talk, but Avery was an exception. She wore a black beret, sitting neatly on top of her fluffy black hair. Her skin was pale, too pale... As if she wasnt from this universe. Anyways, she was in her usual pajamas making coffee. "Ew," Avery thought, "Who the fuck even likes coffee..? Definitely not me!" His thoughts continued, taking a can of cola from the fridge as Bianca looked up.
"Somethin wrong, dude?" Bianca asked, taking a sip of her coffee as she looked at Avery's face, noticing the eyebags. "... Nothing." Avery answered, avoiding eye contact, knowing Bianca was easy at reading expressions. "I can tell you're lying, Av. Tell me." The Mime Bianca said, raising an eyebrow at Avery.
Avery exaggeratingly threw his hands up, a sarcastic look on his face. "Fine, fine, i'll tell you!" He exclaimed, rolling his eyes. "One of my friends died." He blurted out, putting his hands onto the island as he sat on a seat.
"Oh. Sorry for your loss." Bianca said, sympathy in her tone as she looked away. "It's... It's okay."
The two spent the rest of the day silent.
5:28PM
Avery thought in his room for awhile, before realising the string of text Derek sent in the library. Knowing him, Avery put it in a Google docs link. Leading him to--
Derek's letter and his pov.
After watching Derek's pov, he goes to the other tab. Which is most definitely a letter.
"You know it's weird writing a final letter, Almost as if I have come in terms with... Whatever this is. Which is something I find quite displeasureable. But here I am now, why did I even record all of this? I don't know. Well, I do know. I just don't wanna be forgotten. My head hurts like hell, I can feel myself slipping as we become one, And my mind becomes a prison. What a true shame it is, All the knowledge in the world and no way to use it. Thats how it should be I suppose, We stumbled into a world we have no business in. This is just the cost. Please don't think you've failed, Avery. When you read this, down think you've let me down.. You didn't. It's thanks to you that all that you did, That millions get to live another day. And thanks to you I got a chance to see all the beauty of the universe, Things I never even knew were in the world existed, or could be. A chance no human would ever get again. I'm grateful I saw it all, Even if it was just for a little. You're capable of great things, you'll do great things, so believe in yourself. And I don't just say that because I saw it, it doesn't take a God for me to figure that out. I know it because I know you.
Goodbye my friend.
Whatever you do at the crossroads, keep going forward.
Or something like that, I wasn't really good at endings."
Tch. Even at the brink of death he still tries to add humor.
Tears pricked at the edges of Avery's eyes, sobbing as he buried his face into his hands, turning off the pc before anyone else could see it.
Tomorrow would be better.
Death is interesting.
One day, your brain dies, your blood flow stops, your body rotting and decaying as it's being eaten by many insects of all kinds.
The act of dying; the end of life; the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism.
And for some reason, it wasn't as painful as it felt.
Foretold, a certain someone might be alive.
But that wasn't the case, it was the seizure he had to endure.
Pain leaking into every part of his body as he collapsed to the floor, blood pooling at the wooden planks as it seeped through his everything, the feeling of being merged with a God that will cease to exist once his brain stops protesting, stops trying to resuscitate its vessel.
He tried to scream, atleast yell for his sister-- but all that came out was nothing. Tears mixed with blood, dripping down his face in agony. He could barely see in his left eye, the left side of his body hurt more than it did when he saw The King.
His lungs did more work to keep him alive, breathing in and out rapidly as he tried to keep the air in his lungs, maybe to survive the merge to see Avery-- his beloved, the Vessel for The King, his soon-to-be best friend, lover, and husband.
He didn't cared if he died, even if he was fighting for his life, even if his infinite knowledge might be lying about the future, he wanted Avery to be safe, to be breathing and living life without a stranger butting in and making him cry.
If only he was in Avery's dorm, holding his cheek whilst wiping his tears away with his thumb- to erase the grief he'll probably endure.
As he took his last breath, all he could think of was Avery. His loving, stupid, idiotic Avery. Soon, shall they meet in the afterlife.
Or shall they not?
