Work Text:
Lucy hates the feeling of unknowns, she hates not knowing whether or not she’s going to find this damn machete.
(It’s really the bane of her existence right now.)
And it’s even worse that she has dragged Tim into this mess. She just needed his help figuring out where it was.
But she just pulled him more into the mess, and it became more of a mess.
(It’s really her fault she put Smitty in charge—the look on Tim’s face told her everything she needed to know. Yes she knows it wasn’t her brightest move.)
She is grateful Tim is taking the time out of his day to help her. He is willing to help her. She is grateful that he didn’t even protest. He just jumped in without question, and he was willing.
She is thankful that Wesley for the most part has been understanding and she is thankful that maybe just maybe this would be over soon.
Hopefully.
God she hopes this is over soon.
She looks over at Tim who is looking through the boxes, he looks like he’s concentrating so she doesn’t bother him.
But she does admire him. She is glad she can do that again, he seems stressed but that is a default for him since he took the watch commander job. Other than not sleeping for more than 4 hours a night because his phone was constantly ringing. Other than the fact that being knocked during the president’s visit sort of rattled him. He still was Tim, he kept everything under control. He was a good leader in the eye of the storm. No matter what was happening around him, no matter how tough it got.
He was calm.
It was one of the positives of him being watch commander, he was a good leader. He might not know it or think but he was a good leader. He always has been, he just had that authority about him that Lucy admired.
Oh how she loves him.
And it was kind of sexy knowing her boyfriend was in charge. It was nice watching him boss everyone else around like he used to do to her.
(He still tried to do it but it didn’t work—she knew him too well.)
She watches as he bends over, and she admires his back. She may or may not have left marks on his back.
It was last night, just before he got yet another phone call and they managed to get into bed. It started out soft and sweet nothing too rough and then it ended with her on top of him digging her nails into his back.
And then just as she was falling back onto her pillow his phone rang.
Of course.
He just gave her the best orgasm of her life and if she was coming down from it and it was ruined.
(He climbed back into bed after that but still—).
It wasn’t right that it was ruined by a work call and it wasn’t the first time and it wouldn’t be the last.
She takes her eyes off of him to concentrate on her own work. She needs to find this machete or it’s not going to be good for her or Wesley or anyone involved in this.
Tim was already worried about losing his job as watch commander. She didn’t want it to be because of her.
“I know you are staring.” Tim says. She looks up at him a little startled. “You have been this whole time.”
“Maybe I like what I see.” She says. Tim sends her a look, they weren’t the only two in the room. She looks over at the other officer who is doing the same thing they were doing and probably trying not to listen to their conversation.
She sighs and gets back to work.
She really hopes this is over soon. She really, really hopes.

“Let’s go home.” Tim says smiling at Lucy’s enthusiasm at finding the machete.
(To be honest, he was pretty damn excited too. Now they could go home and rest. Today was a lot more than he expected.)
“Okay.” Lucy says and she’s still jumping up and down. “Hold on, let me call Wesley.” Tim nods and watches as she hurries out of the room.
When she comes back in, she’s grinning from ear to ear. “Okay I’m ready.” She says. She puts the machete in a correctly labeled box and pulls on his arm. “Are you ready? I think this calls for a celebration.”
“Absolutely.” He says. “Absolutely.”

Their celebration includes take out and some wine that Lucy has been saving for quite some time. And then she’s sliding on his lap and wraps her arms around his neck.
“Thank you for your help today.” She says pressing a kiss to each of his cheeks. “I really appreciated it.”
“Of course,” he says. “It was my pleasure fixing Smitty’s mistake and I assume you have learned your lesson about asking Smitty to do important things.”
“I did.” She says. “But to be fair, you didn’t approve my overtime.”
“To be fair, I wanted to spend time with my girlfriend without work getting in the way.” Tim shoots back. Lucy rolls her eyes and leans in to kiss him. He had told her this before, and she accepted it then and she would accept it now. It was worth it, despite the fact that she owes Smitty.
(He still hadn’t told her exactly what she is going to have to. And she’s not going to lie, she is a little nervous).
“Fair enough.”
“To be fair, I love you.” Tim says and Lucy grins big. This was what it felt like to be loved, to truly be loved.
“I love you too.”

The rest of the night is spent exactly how Lucy pictured it going. They fall into bed later that night and she is so grateful that she has Tim to come home to.
She is grateful that she has him at work to help her out. She is grateful that they figured out the mystery of the machete and despite all the road bumps and confusion. They got there. They got the machete.
And now they were home.
Together and that’s all that matters.
