Chapter Text

Hummer finds a listless Wifies lounging on the couch, arms stretched to the side and eyes fixed on the white popcorn ceiling.

            “Uh, Wifies,” Hummer mumbles.

Wifies turns his head toward Hummer, blinking slowly. “Hm?”

Finding a seat at the edge of the cushion, by Wifies’s feet, Hummer stutters, “Um, you’ve been lying here for quite…the long while.”

“Well, want to join?” A lazy grin paints Wifies’s face as he stretches and scoots himself upright. His cheeks are flushed from the afternoon heat seeping into the apartment.

“No, that’s uh…not what I intended to say…” Hummer continues, “Just today…the natural history museum is open, and tickets cost pennies. If that’s what you like.”

A wild, brutal spark of interest glints in Wifies’s dark eyes as he leans foreward until his nose almost touches Hummer’s. He takes Hummer’s hands into his—fingers intertwining. His voice is low, fast. Charged with excitement. “I thought you didn’t like museums—but that. Would. Be. Freaking. Amazing. Do they do couples’ discounts? If so, I’m all yours for the day.”

“S-sure!” Hummer feels his cheekbones smolder. His palms are pressed against Wifies’s, embarrassingly drenched in sweat. He has never seen this part of Wifies, and honestly, he’s obsessed with it now. “So we’re going?”

“Yeah! Just let me get ready. I’ll be back in five!”

Wifies’s hands leave Hummer's as he stands, charged with the residue of a warm, tingling sensation crashing down Hummer’s wrists and into his heaving chest. Wifies disappears into Hummer’s bedroom with a wave.

            A second passes.

“Mind if I borrow a shirt?” His voice rings behind the closed door.

Hummer responds, trying to stifle the giddiness consuming his tone. “S-sure! As long as they fit!”

Another second marked by the rustling of fabric and the quiet hiss of the struggling AC flies by. Hummer stands and paces through the room.

Wifies is obviously trying not to burst into laughter. “I’m sorry, Hummer, but your closet looks like it belongs to a Victorian-era commoner!”

“Well you asked for my clothes!” Hummer snaps back jokingly.

Museum outing…date? Couples’ discount? Is he living in a dream? Everything between Wifies and him has always felt more than just a partnership of mutual intrest in Levi. Though, it’s always been a fine line. Wifies is a habitual flirt, but does that indicate him reciprocating Hummer’s growing feelings?

“Okay, okay, I’m ready.”Wifies steps out of Hummer’s room, with a pearly-white, partially buttoned shirt loose against his chest and a genuinely ashamed look on his face. His Yin-Yang necklace hangs from its silver chain, now tumbling between his animated fingers. “I-I tried. Please, Hummer, tell me this isn’t the ugliest shit you’ve ever seen.”

Hummer giggles. “N-no! Not at all—you actually look really, really cute!”

And he realizes what he’s just said.

“I-uh, I mean you look cool, not cute!”

Wifies sighs and lets his necklace drop from his fidgeting grasp. “You’re only saying that because they’re your clothes.”

“Y-yeah! Let’s just go before it’s like, a hundred degrees outside.” Hummer flies to his feet and hops over to the shoerack, pulling out his black platforms. The faint, sweet smell of the ocean tickles his nose.

Wifies follows, phone in hand, slipping into worn purple sandals. “Hummer, how do you survive in all those layers?”

“I’m not really sure.” Hummer straightens his back and rubs the back of his neck.

A flicker of his thumb against the screen and Wifies has the world displayed right before his eyes. Hummer still barely comprehends mobile phones. Maybe he really is a Victorian man.

Wifies’s brows furrow. “It’s a fifteen minute walk. We’re so getting boiled out there.”

Hummer offers him a little smile. “Worth it.”
