    The problem with being dead is that it makes birthdays more complicated than they need to be, Jason isn’t sure which one counts and neither feels quite right, almost like wearing someone else’s skin. People remember you the way you were and not who you are, and not a single moment passes when Jason isn’t reminded that they’re each looking at him and seeing someone else. A ghost, a memory, a haunting, a cautionary tale, the boy who never got to grow up. Jason has forgotten what it was like to be wanted, to be held, to be seen because death taught him there never was a difference between love and loss and the lines have only blurred all the more.
