Summary
The problem with being dead is that it makes birthdays more complicated than they need to be, Jason isn’t sure which one counts and neither feels quite right, almost like wearing someone else’s skin. People remember you the way you were and not who you are, and not a single moment passes when Jason isn’t reminded that they’re each looking at him and seeing someone else. A ghost, a memory, a haunting, a cautionary tale, the boy who never got to grow up. Jason has forgotten what it was like to be wanted, to be held, to be seen because death taught him there never was a difference between love and loss and the lines have only blurred all the more.

Bruce places his hand on Jason’s shoulder, and then with slow, testing movements he closes the distance between them. Both arms wrapping around him, slowly finding their way on his back and chin just above his shoulder and Bruce’s eyes blur. He’d grown so much. He only reached his lower ribs the last time Bruce might have held him like this and he’d grown so very much.

Summary
Dick is silent for a long time. Just looking, like he’s speculating. He’s seen enough wounds in his life. He’s seen enough to know what leaves what kinds of marks behind. His eyes keep tracing the line of the scar, following the back and forth of it’s path across Jason’s throat. What irks Jason is that his face is unreadable. And that he can’t help but flinch when Dick reaches out his hand again. It doesn’t touch though, just his fingers hovering over it like some relic he’s trying to make sense of.
