Work Text:
It's October 26th, 1985. A Saturday. Marty's struggling to stay awake and he's been nibbling away at some strawberries.
"Oh, Marty, I almost forgot, Jennifer Parker called. Said something came up and she won't be able to make it. Oh, and Douglas Needles called to tell you he's still coming."
Half-paying attention, he curses under his breath. Two weeks of planning right down the drain. They're gonna have to reschedule.
"Oh, I sure like her, she is such a sweet girl. I really like her a lot. What a shame. I'm so glad your father was wrong about that boy, too."
She notices the look of confusion plastered across his face.
Who's this boy she's talking about?
"Isn't tonight the night of the big date?"
"What, what, ma?"
"Well, aren't you going to the lake tonight? You've been planning it for two weeks with Jennifer and Douglas."
Mom's giving him a teasing look. Normally he'd be embarrassed, but the car's totaled...
"You could still go with just him, right?"
Douglas? Is she talking about Needles!? Why the hell would he come with us? Did I change things enough to make it so we became friends?
But why would he be coming along? Me and Jennifer were gonna...
Marty shakes his head around a bit.
"Well, ma, we talked about this, we're not gonna go to the lake, the car's wrecked. Besides, even if it wasn't, what's the point if it's just the two of us? That's not fair to Jenn."
He's talking like this is normal! What's wrong with him!?
"Wrecked?"
Everyone else goes to check on the car, but Marty sits down on one of the stools at the fancy, spick-and-span kitchen island.
"Wrecked? When did this happen and-"
"Quiet down, I'm sure the car is fine."
"Why am I always the last one to know about these things?"
He's utterly and completely fixated on the fact that, apparently, Needles had involvement in their plans. He wouldn't bring a friend on that kind of trip.
"See, there's Biff out there waxing it right now. Now, Biff, I wanna make sure that we get two coats of wax this time, not just one."
Biff!?
"Jeez...", he murmurs, "What a difference a belt in the chops can make."
"Now, Biff, don't con me."
Back on track; that could only mean one thing. But never in a million years would he date Needles, let alone date both him and Jennifer together!
"That Biff, what a character. Always trying to get away with something. Been on top of Biff ever since high school. Although, if it wasn't for him-"
There's always rumors swirling around in school about how he and The Pinheads are all dating each other. He's heard similar ones about Needles and The Tabascos and those Saving Vanity guys.
"We never would have fallen in love."
What's with people and thinking all the guys in bands are dating each other? Jeez!
"At least you didn't fall in love in a convenience store like Marty did."
"Oh, lay off of him, Dave."
Marty looks over at both of his siblings.
"How many times do I have to tell you, Dave? I didn't fall in love with Doug then. I fell in love before that."
His brow furrows a bit.
"I fell in love when I... I..."
What's wrong with him? Why can't he remember something as important as that!?
"It was when he came over with his band and tried taking that tube thingy from your amp."
"It's an Interocitor Tube, Linda."
"Right."
He remembers now. Needles dropped and broke it. He said he'd get Needles a tube to borrow if he kissed him first. An attempt to embarrass him in front of his bandmates. Make him do something stupid for once. A really dumb dare, but he couldn't think of anything else. He did it anyway, and both of them were smitten.
That's not what happened that day... Was it?
But it's so vivid. Why is he doubting himself?
Who am I kidding? Of course it is.
"Fine, if it's on me to get a tube... I'll do it. I'll even let you borrow it for free."
"... Just like that, McFly?"
"On one condition."
"I knew ther-"
"Kiss me in front of your bandmates."
"... What?"
"You'd rather pay $10?"
"... Fine."
God, he's still such a great kisser. Marty had kind of forgotten about his crush on Jennifer then. He hadn't said anything to her in four or five years.
For a while, nothing came of that kiss.
... Until Needles saw him and Jenn talking again two years later. He got jealous, and, to top it all off, he was right off the heels of a breakup. But when he tried bothering them in the local 7-11... It was Marty who blurted out they should just all start dating one another... Which made Needles admit he'd been crushing on Marty since 5th grade.
It was just Doug from then on. But Marty calls him "Dougie" more often than not.
Poor Biff's been awkwardly standing with a box in his hands. Dad's novel!
As everyone else goes to take a look, Marty turns back around, ruffling his bangs around before pressing a palm against his temples. This can't be right. What's with these memories of him getting all lovey-dovey with Needles?
He can't lie. The idea is intriguing... What would a nice Needles be like? Clearly, nice enough to make Marty fall head over heels with just a kiss. His cheeks turn a soft pink.
Maybe I'll even like it...
More of these strange memories flood his mind. Getting a kiss from him and Jennifer at the same time right on his cheeks. Multiple times where all three of them had made out. A rare occasion, considering she's often over at her grandmother's house.
One of Marty's favorites with just him was when he snuck out of his room one night and into Doug's- His mom still doesn't like Marty. Even though she's rarely ever home... Sneaking in's more fun. He's still surprised by how easy it is to climb into that second floor window.
At first it was just some flirting, with Marty tracing his fingers down Doug's cheekbones- He likes doing that. A few kisses... All sweet and gentle.
Eventually, Marty had him pinned down, straddling his thick, muscular thighs and gripping onto his shoulders. He sloppily made out with him like his life depended on it while Doug held onto his hips.
And then it was Marty's turn to be the one pinned down, Doug tightly squishing Marty's legs between his and pressing his hands against his chest.
Just thinking about all that makes him lick his lips and rest his cheek against his hand, smirking. They both always tell him they're quite soft...
"Oh, oh Marty, here's your keys. You're all waxed up, ready for tonight."
"... Thanks, Biff."
It's like he's on autopilot. He should be confused. Biff's supposed to be his dad's asshole supervisor.
But all of this also feels like it's the way it's always been.
He grabs his jacket and slings it over his shoulder as he exits with haste. And not just any jacket; the leather jacket that Doug gifted him. Raising the door open, he can catch a glimpse of that 4x4 he'd been ogling last week.
No- Wait. I've always had the truck.
Indeed, it's fully waxed and ready to go, just as Biff claimed. Feels just like new as he runs his hand along it. Jacket halfway on, he only gets as far as sticking the key into the lock when he feels someone rest a pair of leather-clad arms atop his shoulders and nuzzle into the side of his neck.
"Hey, Big M." is whispered into his ear.
That nasally voice with a lisp is music to his ears. The tingly feeling it gives him makes him smirk slightly. He's certain of it all now.
Jennifer's always been his girlfriend. Doug's always been his boyfriend. He's always had that truck. His family's always been well off. Dad's always been a successful author and Mom was never depressed. Linda and Dave have always been working to achieve what they want to in life. Biff was never an asshole ordering Dad around... These days, at least.
Said boyfriend places a quick kiss on his neck and slowly moves his hands down to his waist, but not before pulling Marty's jacket up onto his shoulders.
Marty takes Doug's hands in his after he spins around to see that unmistakable gap-toothed smile.
He's wearing the same leather jacket and tacky green shirt as he always does.
His long hair is tied back. After having that terrible undercut for a few years, he decided to go back to long hair again. He's still dying it black, and Marty can even see his dark brown roots. His hair's always been quite thick and fluffy.
He's always had those face framing strands that curled inwards a little bit. There's always a curl lying in the middle of his forehead, no matter how much he tries to tuck it away. That ponytail reaches down to his upper back.
"Dougie, you're a sight for sore eyes...", he leans in close, laying his hands on his shoulders, "Let me get a good look at you."
"Yer actin' like y'haven't seen me in a week."
"... I haven't."
Marty holds onto one of Doug's hands tight, resting the other against the side of his waist.
"Uh..."
Doug raises the back of his hand to Marty's head, making him go cherry red. His temperature's fine...
"You good?"
That hand trails behind his head and down his hair, brushing against his neck before resting on his shoulder. He's got goosebumps.
"Everythin' alright?"
"Aw, yeah, everything is great. I'm sure you already know the deal with Jenn..."
"Ah... Yeah. Y'still wanna go to the lake?"
"...Nah. That wouldn't be fair."
The sun shines on Doug's hair... The way it glistens will always enamor Marty. Long hair looks so good on him.
"At least I've got you here."
He leans a little closer as Doug's hand moves from his shoulder to the back of his neck as they kiss. A kiss that makes Marty's stomach feel fluttery. Pulling back, he smiles.
They're both quite flushed.
"Did y'sleep in your clothes again? Ya look like a mess."
"Ah... Yeah."
"So... Um... If y'don't wanna go to the la-"
"Don't worry. I just had an idea."
Marty goes to shut the garage door and turn on the light. One of Doug's eyebrows raises as he's dragged behind the truck by his hand. With a wide grin, Marty climbs up onto the truck bed, Doug following as they both sit on the edge of it.
I missed them both so badly.
Marty's starving for their touch. Doug's gonna have to work double time. He's tugged by his collar further in as Marty lays against all the packed stuff.
"Dougie..."
Marty pulls him closer. His legs are getting straddled by Doug's. He yearns for him so badly. He reaches behind his boyfriend to remove his hairtie...
Oh god.
ohgodohgodohgod
Even though those locks are dyed black and past his shoulders; he looks exactly the way he did when they were kids with it down. That's "a nice Needles".
But then
Why
Why is Marty so hungry for his touch?
"Marty? Are you okay?"
This isn't right.
He starts shrinking away in sheer horror.
His pupils slowly dilate.
Needles tries to put a hand on Marty's cheek... But Marty shoves him away.
"Get off me!"
He doesn't have a boyfriend.
"... Huh?"
And if he did, it wouldn't be Needles.
Before he can do anything else, it all just fades to black.
It is not October 26th, 1985.
It is not a Saturday.
Marty jolts awake. His eyes are wide, and his forehead feels cold and damp.
He slowly sits up, and a sopping wet cloth plops into his lap, which he haphazardly tosses to the floor. He's sinking into whatever he's sitting up on...
The couch isn't soft. Feeling around for a lamp...
He's not in the living room. It's a bed.
"Where the..."
Right. Needles mentioned there was a guest room.
I must've dragged myself in here...
But that can't be it- Being in here feels... Gross.
The softness is definitely quite tempting, but no matter how much Needles might insist, Marty told him 'no'.
He drags himself out of the bed and just plops himself down onto the couch. At least his head doesn't hurt anymore.
