Work Text:
Ryan had dreamed about this moment since the night Naim had found out he was pregnant. His hands never once left Naim's belly since finding out. It was like if he took his hands away for too long it wouldn't be real. Like he would wake up and this would all be a sickeningly sweet dream that his brain tricked him into believing he was worthy of.
It was weird. The dreams would come in waves of good and bad. The good ones consisted of around the same scenario each time, it was Naim, himself, and their baby girl.
There was this baby that Naim would be holding in his dream — she was beautiful that's all he knew.
Her eyes were bright blue and she looked like…him.
Ryan only told Naim about those dreams and didn't talk about the other ones, afraid to put any added stress on his mate.
There were dreams that seemed so familiar, visions of his childhood. Memories that had been tucked away to preserve the small amount of fun that he had before everything changed.
Except, he wasn't the kid holding a fishing pole with bleach blonde curls it was her. It was Daisy. Something just told him that was his daughter in set of fishing gear standing there with a figure that looked like him — no wait it was him.
'You really think the fish are gonna want tuna?'
'Yes! They will think it is their friend and want to come see him.' A little voice spoke up, she didn't stop talking after that either it was the cutest thing. She was so Naim — a little yapper at heart.
It was usually around this time in the dream that he would wake up holding Naim. This time his fiance was awake, a soft smile on his lips as he watched Ryan dream.
"What was that one about?" Naim asked sleepily, curiosity getting the better of him.
"So like this sounds crazy but I was fishing with Daisy." Ryan hadn't really been there perse, just had been watching himself with his daughter from afar — it felt so familiar so much like it used to feel with his own dad.
"Fishing with her? That sounds like fun, I'm jealous." These dreams had been getting more vivid in detail, he wised Naim could see them too.
"Yeah, it was nice…reminded me of when I was little. My uh, my dad would take me fishing we went out on some old boat. I complained a lot but it was fun when we caught something." He recalled, a mildly fond look on his face remembering the good times he had as a kid.
"I want that for her. I want us to be able to take her fishing, I want to do fun things with her." Ryan wanted to give their daughter a childhood that she deserved — the one he had once upon a time.
"You ever think about how she could save us in a way?" Ryan thought aloud one day, a thought crossing his mind that maybe just maybe having their daughter was going to save them in some weird way.
The entity had been at bay for some time now, Ryan had been the only one to see it once but Naim? Naim never saw it — it had actually become less frequent since he found out he was pregnant.
It was almost as if being pregnant had something to do with keeping the entity away, a shield was what he could probably compare it best to.
"What do you mean? Like, save us from being like our parents or save us as in 'save the world' kinda thing." Naim was mildly confused, his brow pinched in the middle as he sat up on his elbow trying to figure out just what his fiance was saying.
"Lil' bit of both. I think she could save us like…I dunno maybe make us better?" It was a struggle to find the right words. They just weren't coming to him and wished so badly that Naim could just see inside his head — actually he was convinced that he could. Right down to their shared looks they would give each other enough to know what the other was thinking in that moment. They didn't even need words to know what the other was feeling, on the same wavelength.
Naim could pick up the pieces that Ryan was laying out for him, like a puzzle.
"I think she could too. It's called 'healing your inner child' or something like that. Oh Ryan, do you need your inner child healed?" A grin tugged at the corner of his lips as he continued running his fingers through Ryan's curls a warm feeling inside his chest.
This next step in their life together was something he hadn't ever dreamed they could have — that he even deserved.
Naim genuinely felt as if sometimes he didn't deserve this…all of this with Ryan. It had been years of trying to work past understanding that he was just a teenager when it all had happened. That they could never have possibly known what the outcome would be, that Naim hadn't done it with a malicious outcome in mind. Some days were easier than others.
"Oh yeah, definitely. 'M afraid though that therapy just ain't gonna cut it, might need some kisses maybe?" Ryan leaned up to steal a kiss, Naim meeting him halfway because that was as good as he could do with the way his stomach limited his mobility. "Hey don't thump my head, what'd I do?" He asked, peering up from his omega's lap.
"It was Daisy, Ry."
"Mhm sure it was."
Naim thumped Ryan lightly on the top of his crown this time, whistling innocently after looking around as if it weren't him.
"If she doesn't stop thumping me, I'm gonna take it out on you." Ryan growled, unable to hold back the stupid grin on his mouth as he tackled Naim backwards onto the grass. He had one hand braced for the impact, another on his belly to make sure they had a soft landing. It wasn't nearly as rough as he used to do it — Naim liked it though and how could he deny him of such a simple joy? It was impossible.
