Chapter Text
1985 – Peter Parker
“Now, try opening your eyes”
Peter obeyed the command, the reflective wall let him get a good look at how the new suit had changed. He was slimmer looking thanks to the suit being all black, but he was now visibly, thankfully, himself again. “Phew, thanks doc. You just saved me and Battleworld from Johnny’s bad jokes.”
Reed chuckled at that, he knew his brother-in-law well, even if he wasn’t as close to him as Peter was. A smile was stuck on his face as he returned to the alien device he’d been examining earlier. “I’m afraid I can’t take much credit Peter. As I suspected the material is hyper reactive to your mind and its desires, thus it’s web shooters and similarity to your previous costume. All I did was give you a push in the right direction”.
Peter froze for a moment, back uncomfortably straight as his mind wandered. He’d stumbled on the suit by chance, uncovering its black alien material while searching for a machine to repair his destroyed red and blue outfit. It had attached itself to him hungrily as soon as Peter had opened its capsule, pouncing on him like a predator, though if it was intending to hurt Peter, his spider sense didn’t seem to think so. Still, it seemed almost alive as it subsumed him, yet moments later it went inert, becoming an almost cloth-like material with the texture of plastic, covering his body with its own, unique, spider design. Despite the initial scare Peter was ecstatic, not only did the suit generate its own webs (what was left of his wallet let out a huge sigh of relief at that), but Peter felt stronger while wearing it, his powers enhanced. He ran back towards the fighting, to show off as he was wanton to do, only stopping when he caught himself in a window’s reflection.
The suit hadn’t changed him, not physically, but the way it was designed, the subtle gradients and choice spots of different colors… the suit emphasized hips and chest while drawing attention away from his shoulders. His limbs retained their muscle but were compressed down quite a bit by the suit’s shapeshifting properties. Even the lenses were off, styled in a way to evoke something akin to eyelashes. There was no way around it, Peter looked… he looked like a woman. Embarrassment flooded through Peter’s body, grateful that the mask covered his burning cheeks. There was something else too, something like fear, a fear Peter couldn’t place and didn’t care much to try and understand. This fear had driven Peter away from the frontlines and towards Reed, which caught Peter back up to the present.
Peter had assumed that the suit had been made for a woman, or that the Beyonder had a weird sense of humor. But if this thing simply reacted to what was already on his mind, and it immediately went to woman then—
The older scientist didn’t even take a glance back as he gave Peter an out “It must have latched on to your thoughts of Mary Jane. Had I found the suit first, I’d likely appear pregnant”.
“Well, Johnny would be too weirded out to make jokes about that, so I guess it works out.” Peter felt the confusion melting away as reality, and his sense of self came back into focus. Peter walked up to Reed, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You know she’s going to be okay, right? Sue’s stronger than everyone on this planet combined, she can handle weird cravings”.
“I am well aware Peter… but thank you”.
“Anytime doc. Now let’s work on getting you home in time for diaper duty”.
Reed shared a smile with Peter as the two walked out of the room together. “Circumstances aside, I am glad for both the discovery and your decision to share it with me Spider-Man. We’ll of course run more tests on the suit as soon as we return to Earth. It’s amazing”!
“Yeah” Peter turned his gaze to the last few segments of the reflective wall still visible from this part of the room. “Amazing…”
