Summary:

Shane is very excited to be taking Ilya with him to his cottage. He’s not going to let a little migraine stop him. Is he?

Work Text:

Shane could not believe that Ilya was in his car right now or that they were on their way to his cottage. His safe space with his safe person. He was giddy with joyous disbelief and nerves. Shane was so excited that he got behind the wheel of a vehicle with what feels like an impending migraine. He'd had a few since the concussion.

He tries to keep his eyes and mind on the road but the nausea was beginning to roll uneasily in his stomach.

"Shane, you are okay?" Ilya asks, his face drawn down with concern. "You do not look well."

"Just a headache, no need to worry." Shane replies, keeping a white knuckle grip on the steering wheel.

Ilya watches him for the rest of their drive which isn't long because Shane turns a ghostly white and pulls of on to the side of the rode. He closes his eyes tightly against the sun beating down on the windshield.

"I can worry now?" Ilya asks, placing his hand the nape of Shane's neck.

"Migraine." He grits put through clenched teeth, breathing heavily trying to keep the nausea at bay. "Since my concussion."

"And you decide best plan is for you to drive us to remote cottage." Ilya deadpans, though his tone is laced with worry.

"I just wanted to be with you." Shane whispers.

Ilya's heart aches for this wonderful man beside him. He does not have time to process it all before Shane is unbuckling his seatbelt, throwing open the door and throwing up on the side of the road.

"Solnyshko." Ilya coos, reaching over to rub Shane's back as he continues to heave up what's left in his stomach. "Have to get you to cottage."

"You don't have a Canadian driver's licence, you are not committing a crime on our vacation." Shane warns when he finally catches his breath. "You also don't know the way and I don't think I could give you instructions right now." He adds, spitting g up more bile on to the ground.

"Can not have you in this heat." Ilya ushers Shane back into the car, fiddling with buttons until he gets the air conditioner going.

"We also can’t stay on the side of the road." Shane sinks into his seat throwing his arm over his eyes as a shield.

"Can you type directions?" Ilya asks, handing Shane his phone. He almost immediately grabs it back when he sees Shane turn green. "You can tell me address?" He asks this time. Shane opens his mouth to speak but slams it shut and groans when it causes his stomach to roll. He can only focus on breathing through it.

"I take as no." Ilya says more to himself than to Shane.

"I can call someone, maybe?" Ilya suggests. "Will you be angry if I call parents?"

Shane grunts but shakes his head that he would not be mad. If he wasn't feeling so sick and in so much pain he'd probably be panicking about what this would all mean, but he really wanted his parents, and his cottage. And his Ilya. He reaches down the side of his door and thrusts his phone in the other man’s general direction.

Ilya quickly attempts to unlock Shane's phone. He tries 8124, 2481 and 1410, the last of which finally gets him in. He wants to fawn over this fact but he knows that now is not the time.

He navigates to Shane's contacts and calls his mother. It rings twice before be answered.

"Hi, sweetheart. I thought you were on a silent retreat. Is every okay?" The woman's voice asks on the other end of the line. Ilya had heard this voice many times. He's seen a lot of interviews and she often went to Shane's games.

"Mrs Hollander?"

"Yes, who is this? Why are you calling from Shane's phone."

"I am with Shane now. He was driving but got migraine. We are on side of road."

"From his concussion, I told him to take it easy." She sighs, "That doesn’t answer who you are."

"A friend. I think it is best to talk in person, on phone is not best. It is complicated." He tries to explain. "I turned on Shane's location. Can you track it?"

"Yes, yes I can." Ilya hears her gathering things, "Do I need to bring anything?"

"Maybe a blanket. The sun is hurting him. Also, your husband if possible. I do not want to leave his car out here."

"Of course. Hang in there, we're on our way."

The line goes dead. Ilya leans over to whisper quietly to Shane. "Your parents are coming. They will be here soon." Shane leans into his side and Ilya wraps his arms around him, not squeezing too much as to not upset his stomach more.

About half an hour later, Ilya sees car pulling up beside them on the road. He looks up to see the shocked expressions of Shane's parents.

He eases Shane off of his shoulder, making sure he's settled in his seat before stepping out of the car. By the team he's done all this the Hollander's are out of their own car.

"Hello." He greets stiffly. "It his nice to meet you Mr and Mrs Hollander. I am Ilya Rozanov." Mentally slapping himself. They definitely know who he is.

"We know who you are Ilya." Ilya nods.

"Shane is in there." He dumbly gestures towards the car. He relaxes once they've hurried over to their son, giving him the chance to breathe.

"Honey, we're going to get you in our car and then dad will drive your car, okay?" Shane nods to his mother, his face screwed up in pain.

They help Shane into their vehicle. David hands Shane the blanket to cover his eyes which Shane takes gratefully. "While we're all here, can we discuss what is going on here?" Yuna asks, looking between his son and Ilya.

"I do not want to tell without Shane's consent." Ilya states, looking to Shane for permission. Shane gives him a weak thumbs up not caring if his parents find out right now. He'll probably freak out about it later.

"Shane and I are close. I care for him very much. I hope he feels the same." Ilya can't make eye contact with either of Shane's parents. "Rivalry is only for cameras. Shane is Jane in my phone, I am Lily in his."

"You're Lily." David says, his a look of understanding crossing his face.

"We thought she was his girlfriend." Yuna breathes.

"Not his girlfriend, no." Ilya peaks at their faces, "We have been very secretive. We do not want league getting wind of what we are to each other. I do not speak for Shane, but I believe he wanted to tell you very much. He knew you would be okay with this, but the tiny chanse you were not frightened him." He cups the back of Shane's head tenderly.

Yuna has tears in her eyes, "Oh, my boy." She coos, "Of course we accept and love you. You’re our son, it would take a lot more than you liking men to change that." David hums in agreement, Ilya steps back allowing them to hold their boy.

"We talk more when he is feeling better." Ilya says, wanting to get Shane to his cottage as soon as possible. Ilya transfers his and Shane's bags to the Hollander's car. David gets in Shane's boring car and pulls back on to the road. Ilya gets into the backseat with Shane. Yuna drives, meeting his eye in the rearview, she mouths a 'thank you.'

Ilya smiles and nods, holding Shane close. When Shane is feeling better he'll probably panic but Ilya will be there and so will his parents.

Surrounded by the people who love him.
