A Sweet Morning

Summary:

Will unhooks the leash, letting the dog free, then hangs it back up on the hook.

Mike's watching him from the kitchen, just leaning against the counter. Will walks over, standing next to Mike and smiling up at him. He looks over at the clock on the stove, then back at Mike.

"It's been approximately ten minutes since you woke up," Will tells him. "Where's my good morning kiss?"

Or...
A slow, sweet, fluffy morning with Will, Mike, and their dog

Notes:

Flufftober day 11!

SO sorry that I missed yesterday. The prompt I wrote down actually inspired me to start a fic that I was not able to finish in one day, and I couldn't think of a backup... SORRY 😓

Also, yes, I changed my username!! Sorry if that's confusing (it used to be regulusblackindisguise). I changed it to the wrong thing though so I'm gonna change it again as soon as I can! It's supposed to be crazy_together_star7

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Will wakes up early in the morning, but not too early. He's always been like this, ever since he was younger. (Except for those days when he's really exhausted.) The morning sun seeps through the window, and he's suddenly wide awake, even though his boyfriend is still sound asleep, snoring so loud that the neighbors can probably hear him.

Allowing Mike to rest, Will stretches and climbs out of bed, heading out of their bedroom and into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. He does his best to not make too much noise, even though he knows that Mike can sleep through pretty much anything.

Will nearly trips over their dog, Gollum, as he reaches into the cabinet to grab the jar of coffee grounds. He accidently kicks Gollum in the face, so he bends down to pet him and whisper some apologies, getting his face licked in return. As he scoops the grounds into the coffee filter, he hears the dog's nails click down the hallway, walking into one of the other rooms.

The coffee machine buzzes to life as Will turns it on, the coffee beans filtering through the filter and into the water, dripping down into the glass pot. It sounds so loud compared to the rest of the mostly quiet apartment.

Will waits for the coffee to finish being made, busying himself with reading one of his books for class. He's decided to not make breakfast until Mike's awake, so he has to do something while he waits, even if it's not very fun.

He reads about five pages before the machine starts beeping, signalling that it's done. Will grabs a yellow ceramic mug out of the cabinet and takes the coffee pot from the machine, pouring steaming hot coffee into his favorite mug. There's still plenty coffee left, so he puts it back, hoping that Mike wakes up before it cools down all the way.

Will takes his mug and his book, going to sit on the couch while he drinks his coffee. He sets his things down on the side table while he pulls a blanket from the opposite side of the couch over his legs, then grabs the book again, reading while he waits for his coffee to cool down.

Once it's cool, he begins taking small sips, slowly waking up. He starts to get engrossed in his book, even though he originally thought it wouldn't be very interesting and has been putting it off for weeks.

It's not long before Mike wakes up, only about twenty minutes or so. Will hears him walk into the main part of the apartment and looks up from his book, smiling at his boyfriend who very obviously just crawled out of bed. His hair is slightly tangled, his pants are a bit twisted, and he's not wearing a shirt.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Will teases, even though Mike really didn't sleep in that late.

Mike just smiles in response, walking into the kitchen and silently grabbing a coffee mug. He's not very talkative in the morning, even though he is at every other time of day.

Once Mike has his cup of coffee, he comes over and sits down next to Will on the couch, leaning his head on Will's shoulder.

Will loves mornings like this, when they are both super sleepy and just cuddle while they drink their coffee. It feels so domestic and sweet. Sure, Mike has work in about an hour, but they still have plenty of time for this.

"You're so cute like this," Will tells him. "I love when you sleep on me."

Mike hums. "I'm not asleep," he mumbles, almost offended.

Will laughs softly. "Sure you aren't."

The dog comes bounding into the living room and jumps on the couch, having way too much energy for this time in the morning. Mike sits up straighter to prove his point about not being asleep, and scratches Gollum behind his fluffy ears, smiling down at the dog. "Did you take him out yet?" Mike asks.

"Not yet," Will answers, drinking the last drops of his coffee. "I can take him out now, though."

Mike nods, leaning back on the couch. "Okay," he agrees, shutting his eyes once more.

Will pulls the blanket off his lap and stands up from the couch. He walks into the kitchen to put his mug in the sink, then grabs the black leash off the hook on the wall. "Come on, Gollum," he calls out to the dog, standing by the back door.

Gollum jumps off the couch and runs to Will, barking in excitement. Will grabs his collar and turns it to find the silver loop that the leash connects to. Once he has the leash secure on the dog, he opens the sliding glass door and takes him out to the grassy area between the apartments.

He waits for Gollum to do his buisness, then cleans it up and takes him back inside.

Mike grabs Will's waist and leans in, pressing a soft, deep kiss to his lips. "Morning, baby," he says, pulling away. "I love you."

"I love you, too," Will replies, smiling up at him.

"Doing anything fun today?" Mike asks.

Will shrugs. "Just a whole lot of reading. Might take Gollum on a walk if I have time."

Mike sighs. "I wish I could be doing that," he complains, "I've gotta work open to close."

"Speaking of that," Will starts, glancing back at the clock. "You should probably go get ready."

Mike looks at the clock and groans. He turns to kiss Will again, then exits the kitchen. "I'll be trying to drown myself in the shower if you need me," he says, walking down the hallway to their bedroom.

"Please don't!" Will calls back, knowing that Mike's just joking.

Thirty minutes later, Will is back on the couch, plate of pancakes in hand and Gollum on the floor right next to him. He hears the bedroom door open, and Mike steps out into the living room just a minute later. His hair is still pretty damp from the shower, a few drops of water dripping down onto his dress shirt.

Mike sits down next to him on the couch, and they share the plate of pancakes before he has to leave for work.

Once it's time to leave, he gives Will a quick kiss, then stands up from the couch and grabs his bag off the table by the door. "I'll be back later," he says, grabbing the door handle. "I love you."

"I love you, too, baby," Will tells him.

Mike gives him a smile, then pulls the door open and walks out. Will misses him immediately.
