Monarch woke up in the CEO’s office. In his father’s office.
“Ah, my boy, you’re finally awake!” Father greeted. “You had a bit of a… glitch there. But no worries, I fixed it right up for you. You’re as perfect as ever.”
‘Thank you, Father.” Monarch replied.
Father put his hand on Monarch's shoulder. “Son, let me know when you have such… imperfections. Defection is not forgivable.”
“Of course, Father. I apologize. I will not make such mistakes again.”
Father patted Monarch on the back. “Good. We don't need more failures, do we?”
“No.”
“No, what?”
“No, Father.”
Father smiled. “Atta boy. Make Father proud, won't you?”

“Of course, Father.”

Monarch patrolled the streets of New Star City. There were so many traitors, so many defects, so many threats. Monarch had to squash them all before they dared infiltrate with Chrysalis's future.
Father was pleased with Monarch's work. Father was pleased. Father was pleased.
V13 joined Monarch in his patrol. V13 was a good droid. She was loyal. She was skilled. She was useful.
“Monarch, have you seen any fugitives yet?” V13 asked.
“Negative. They will not stay hidden much longer. “ Monarch said.
“No,” V13 confirmed, “they won't.”

“Heeey, Deckard!” Abel greeted.
[Annoyance]
“Abel. What is your purpose?” Monarch inquired.
Abel hesitated. “...What do you mean?”
“Why are you talking to me? Is it to waste my time again?”
“No!!! I just want to talk to my son!” Abel claimed.
“I am not your son.” Monarch stated.
“...Listen, have you seen… Ish yet?” Abel asked.

“I just thought… maybe you could remember what it was like before?” Abel paused. “But you’re not him… you’re just wearing his face.”

Abel stared at the ground. He whispered something Monarch could not hear. Monarch left.

The PA system rang throughout the city streets. “Monarch, meet me in my office now.” Father ordered.
[Directive: Go To the Office]
Monarch stopped in his tracks and turned around, heading straight for the office. He spotted a small blur of motion behind him. Upon further inspection, he found nothing. He continued to the office.

“Monarch, my son! I’d like to introduce you to Ish-13C.” Father said, gesturing to an android next to him.

“Hello, Ish-13C.” Monarch greeted.
“Hello, Monarch.” Ish-13C responded in kind.
“Do you recognize him, my boy?” Father asked.
“Affirmative. He is the former Project Manager. Formerly human. A traitor.” Monarch answered.
“Excellent,” Father praised. “You’re doing so well, son.”
[Directive: Make Father Proud]
“Thank you, Father.” Monarch said gratefully.
Father smiled. “Monarch, take Ish-13C to meet the rest of the city, won’t you?”
“Of course, Father.”

As Ish-13C introduced himself to the crowd, Monarch scanned their faces. They were upset. Mad.

They did not appreciate Father’s mercy towards a traitor such as Ish. Father could have very well ordered Ish to be slain for his treasonous acts, yet he chose to gift Ish the opportunity to be born anew. Ish was now Ish-13C. Ish-13C is improved in every possible way.
