Mack is buzzing on the way home. He won. He fucking won. He beat his baker teammate, and he is never going to let him live this down.
Mack was originally quite pissed at Will for dragging him into this publicly. Like he had no chance of getting out of it once Will announced it.
But then when he found out it was going to be a competition, he was in. Any chance to beat Will is a chance he is going to take.
He has no idea about cupcakes, but he’s got some creativity. Which came in handy. He kept peeking over at Will's team. Will was so focused on what he was doing. He was quite shy around the ladies, which was adorable. But he was taking it very seriously. And so was Mack.
Then they brought out Toff and Cat, and Mack thought he was done. Cat has such a soft spot for Will. And Will's cupcakes were so him. Like Christmas and Dubai chocolate. So obvious.
But then it was announced, and Mack wanted to jump up and down. He quickly rubbed it in Will's face before he got handed some weird trophy.
Will is silent beside him in the driver's seat.
“Sooooo,” Mack drags out once they get on the road.
“Don’t start,” Will mumbles.
“It’s gotta hurt, though, eh?” Mack stabs.
He’s got a giant smile across his face. His feet are bouncing on the floor of the car.
Will glares at him. It’s an annoyed look, but it doesn't stop Mack.
Mack pats him on the shoulder. “You were close, bud,” Mack adds. “Just not close enough,” he mumbles.
“We won,” Will adds.
Mack dramatically swerves to look at Will. His eyebrows are high on his forehead.
“How’s that?” Mack asks.
“Cat said we won overall,” Will explains.
“But we had the best cupcake,” Mack defends.
Will rolls his eyes. “You had one good cupcake. We had five.”
Mack shakes his head. “You're such a sore loser,”
Will reaches over and punches Mack’s thigh.
Mack jumps in his seat. “Ow fuck!”
He slaps at Will's arm. “See, sore fucking loser,” Mack adds.
Will shakes his head and pulls his arm back.
“I’ll beat you next year,” Will says.
Mack shoots him a dirty look. “This is not becoming an annual thing.”
He had fun. But not that much fun.
“Why not?” Will asks. “You loved it,”
“Because it was stressful,” Mack adds. It was with the timer ticking down. He’s doesnt need extra stress in his life.
“You just don’t wanna lose,” Will adds.
Mack huffs. “Please. I’m unbeatable.”
Will laughs.
“The Christmas tree one was cool,” Mack admits. He definitely wasn’t as good at the decorating as Will was. He couldn’t believe he even thought about that.
“Thanks,” Will mumbles. He takes a deep breath. “I tried the red velvet one. It was decent.”
Mack smiles widely. “Well, I can’t quite take credit for it but-“
“But you're going to anyway,” Will finishes for him.
Mack giggles. “You win as a team; you lose as a team,”
“Okay, Rick,” Will says sarcastically.
“Ugh,” Mack adds.
“Your team carried you,” Will adds.
“Well, a good captain just has to lead,” Mack explains.
He turns and looks at Will. He’s surprisingly happy with it all. He has fun with anything he does with Will. So it’s no surprise he had fun today.
And now he gets to go home with Will. It’s a perfect day.
“If we were to have actually made the batter and stuff, I would have kicked your ass,” Will says.
Mack sinks further into his seat and nods. “Yes, Will. You are still the baker in this relationship.”
Mack reaches over and grabs at Will's arm till he gives it over. Mack pulls it till Will's hand is resting on his thigh. “You don't have to worry about me being in the kitchen,”
“You're only saying that because you want to eat all my treats,” Will adds. With a squeeze to Mack’s thigh.
“Of course,” Mack concedes.
“Thanks for coming,” Will adds.
Mack rubs his hand up and down Will's forearm. “You didn’t leave me with much of a choice.”
“Yeah, but you whined a lot less than I thought you would,” Will explains.
Mack rolls his eyes.
“I don’t whine,” he mumbles.
Will laughs. “Sure, bud,”
Mack gives him a death glare.
Will's hand on Mack’s thigh lifts and grips Mack’s chin. He shakes it back and forth.
“It’s usually a good whine, though,” Will mumbles. Under his breath. Like he doesn’t want anyone to hear.
Mack’s cheeks tinge pink as Will lets go of him.
“Enough,” Mack shoots back.
Will's hand falls back into his thigh.
“Imma kick your ass next year,” Will says.
Mack doesn’t bother arguing. If Will wants to do it again, then they will. He can’t quite say no to him. He is at his mercy.
Which is exactly where he wants to be.
