"Lloyd?!"
Jay screamed across the rubble, picking his way through the remains of the collapsed building. Dust filled the air, shifting along with the groaning of the building as it threatened to topple further.
"Lloyd! Where are you?" Jay called out again. They hadn't been far apart, come on; he should be here. Something shifted to his left. He whipped around, spotting a flash of dirty green.
"Lloyd!" Jay dashed over, heaving pieces of rubble off the younger boy, and tossing them to the side. "Are you alright—what happened—everything exploded and then—"
He stopped; one of his hands was stained red from the debris he moved. "Shit. Shit, shit."
He turned to Lloyd, eyes raking over his prone form for the source of the blood. Dropping down next to the boy, Jay ripped off their hoods, smoothing out the fabric before pressing them as hard as he could on to the gash in Lloyd's side.
He yelped, squirming away from Jay's hands, but Jay didn't move. That was too much blood. Lloyd continued to wriggle slightly, movements calming once the shock of the pressure wore off. His eyes were far away, red rimmed from dust and tears; face smeared with grime.
Jay continued to mutter under his breath, running through what he knew. The others would be searching for them; he'd been on the com to Cole when whatever happened, happened. It hadn't worked when he tried again, but they knew where he and Lloyd had been.
Glancing down at his hands, he felt a sticky, warm substance creeping across them. Blood was leaking out from his makeshift bandages. He cursed quietly, pushing down harder.
"I don't wanna die."
A small voice made him look up at Lloyd's face. Green eyes wide with terror; he shook underneath Jay. First Master, he was so young. So much younger than any of them ever had been.
"Hey—hey, it's okay," Jay met his scared eyes, "You're gonna be fine. The others—they're coming, okay? You're alright."
More blood seeped between his fingers, and Lloyd's head fell back against the rubble. Was Jay imagining it or was he paler than before. He looked around the room, praying to anyone who might listen, that the others would hurry up.
"Lloyd—buddy, look at me," Tired green eyes opened again, "You have to stay awake. I'm here, we're fine. You're gonna be fine."
Jay's heart beat wildly as he locked eyes with Lloyd, "I promise you, you're going to be fine."
