Chapter Text
Yoda dreamed.
Many masters claimed otherwise, but the little green Jedi often dreamed during the night.
Sometimes he dreamed of the strangest things, that didn't make any sense like singing tokas and crawling stones. Other times his nights were far from peaceful, as his sleep was haunted by painful, ancient memories of the old times, when the Jedi were at war and grew up to become soldiers instead of peacekeepers.
An army of light, the Jedi Knights had been once called. And an army they had been, executing the will of the Old Republic.
But during some rare nights like tonight, Yoda dreamed of the future.
And the future was always an ever changing puzzle to the gremlin.
He saw a burning city surrounded by ash covered dead fields, as fire rained from the sky. A lonely man stood in the middle of it all, grief stricken, as his blue lightsabre flickered weakly, illuminating the dead corpses, that laid before the Jedi's feet.
"Choose", the force sang as a crossroad appeared before the lonely Jedi master, whose face was covered in tears of sadness for the dead.
And the light turned off, when the lightsabre fell down and sank into the fiery ash, melting the symbol connection the man had to the order into a meaningless mess. In the darkness, the man then knelled down and grabbed with his now empty hand into the ash, picking up a bony mask.
"Choose", the Force sang again, but this time Yoda felt, that they addressed him.
"Choose", they called and the Master faced Yoda.
"Choose", the master called out, locking eyes with the elder one.
And Yoda woke up to the sound of someone knocking on the door of his apartment in the middle of the night, calling out his name.
When he finally had gotten up and put on his night robe to open said door, the same Master he had just seen in his confusing vision greeted him nervously.
"Master Yoda, I am sorry for waking you at this time, but can we talk?"
"Worry not, you shall, Master Viszla. Announced your visit the force has. Shared with me it has that a difficult decision you have to make, it has too. Standing in front of a crossroad, and search for my advice, you do. Come in. Talk we will and drink tea."
"Vor entye, Master-"
"Call me Yoda you may, because drink tea as friends not masters we will. Believe, I do, my role as head of the order harm will do to you, Tarre."
"Alright, Yoda. Tonight, we shall be friends."
Later, when the sun rose again, Yoda stood at the top of the stairs leading to the temple grounds, watching solemnly the silhoette of his friend disappear amongst the lively crowd, as he held the empty lightsabre case void of an kyber crystal in his hands.
Chosen, he had, just as the force had demanded from him in his vision. He just hoped that he had made the right decision, when he let Tarre Viszla return to his home, leaving the order entirely and beginning a wholy new life.
Now, he could only wait and see what Tarre would do with his choice.

Hundreds of years later, Yoda stood on the same spot, where he had once watched his friend leave to become the famous Mand'alor, the Uniter.
Now he waited for his successor to return.
Mand'alor Mereel was certainly surprised to see the order's Grandmaster receive him.
"Su'cuy, Master Yoda. Did you wait here for me?"
"Su'cuy, Mand'alor. On this spot stood before once, when watch Master Viszla leave this order to become Mand'alor, I did. Feeling I had today, that return something of his you might. Right, I were, weren't I?"
"Master Yoda, may I introduce you to my friend, Anija be Wren, the Alor of a hidden kara blessed group of Mando'ade that call themselves 'kara'cabuure' and were founded by Mand'alor Viszla. Anija, this is Master Yoda, the wisest of all Jetiise, who until recently used to be the head of the order over the span of centuries."
"It is an honor to finally meet you, Master Yoda. I was told by my predecessors, that you were a great friend to Ori'Kara'Cabuur Tarre."
"Friends indeed we were, if only for a night. My pleasure, it is, to meet another successor of his in person. See much of him in you, I can. Great happiness you have brought to me in these troubling times, Kara'cabuur'alor Wren."
"Now, shall we go in? The next session is about to start."
"We shall."
